Teramachi Art Center: Unravel / Mend / Reweave | Fritz Art Center
古くからの住民に「寺町」と呼ばれている前橋市三河町。敷島公園で40年間にわたって良書とアートを紹介してきた「フリッツ・アートセンター」の小見純一が、生まれ育った三河町に新たに設立する「寺町藝術センター（寺藝）」は、街区の新陳代謝のなかで静かに消えようとしていた2棟の空きビルを、芸術家、旅人、そして地域の人々が日常的に交差する劇場やアートホテルへと再生させるプロジェクト。寺藝は単なるリノベーションプロジェクトではなく、路地が消え、家々が形を変え、人びとの共同の記憶が薄れゆくいま、凝り固まった思考や価値観を「ほどき」、壊れかけた地域の関係性を「つくろい」、時代の変化によってバラバラになった土地の物語を「あみなおす」ための創造の場づくりである。芸術祭の期間中を通して、演劇上演、アート展示、映画祭、音楽ライブなど、寺藝に集まるコミュニティによる多彩な表現を即興的に⽣み出していく。

Mikawa-cho in Maebashi, or ‘Teramachi’ by the locals, is where Junichi Omi was born and raised. Founder of the Fritz Art Center, a source of quality books and art in Shikishima Park for the last 40 years, Omi has launched the Teramachi Art Center (Teragei), a project to transform two vacant buildings on the verge of being quietly erased by urban renewal. Constituting a theater and art hotel where artists, travelers, and local residents can intersect as part of daily life, the Teramachi Art Center is not merely a renovation project. At a time when alleys vanish, houses change form, and shared memories fade, it aims to ‘unravel’ rigid ways of thinking, ‘mend’ frayed community ties, and ‘reweave’ stories of the land that have become fragmented over time. Throughout the biennale, a diverse range of expressions will spontaneously emerge from community gatherings at the Center, including theatrical performances, art exhibitions, film festivals, and live music.
