DAN WEMA SPEAKS TO HK MEDIA ON PHYLLIS CASE, CALLS FOR FAIRNESS
By HK Media
Dan Wema has spoken to HK Media today about the ongoing discussion surrounding the medical case of Phyllis and allegations circulating on social media concerning funds raised to support her treatment.
During the conversation, Wema firmly stated that the accusations being made against him are false. He explained his involvement in Phyllis's case and shared the circumstances surrounding the fundraising, her treatment and the assistance that was provided to her and her family.
Phyllis's case came to public attention after people learned about her medical condition, which involved a severe swelling around her neck. A fundraising campaign was launched to help her access medical care, with approximately KSh700,000 reportedly raised.
According to Wema, the funds were used to support Phyllis and meet various needs that arose during the process.
He explained that approximately KSh200,000 was spent on expenses including travel to Eldoret, accommodation, food, transport and medical care. Phyllis also received treatment at Hope Hospital and, according to Wema, underwent a blood transfusion.
Wema further explained that assistance was also extended to Phyllis's brother, Morris, including support towards rent and KSh26,000 for basic needs.
After these expenses, Wema says approximately KSh500,000 remained.
Wema explained to HK Media that the remaining funds were kept with the intention of ensuring that they continued to benefit Phyllis. He says discussions were held on how the money could be managed responsibly, including the possibility of a joint account involving members of Phyllis's family.
At the same time, efforts were being made to explore further treatment options for Phyllis.
Wema said treatment in India was considered and consultations were made with doctors there. According to his account, Phyllis's medical condition was serious and the doctors explained the risks involved, meaning that treatment could not be presented as a guaranteed solution.
The proposed journey to India also faced documentation and passport-related challenges, according to Wema.
He maintains that the decision not to proceed with the India trip was therefore influenced by the medical advice, documentation requirements and circumstances surrounding Phyllis's case.
As the matter continued to attract attention online, Wema maintained that the money raised was intended for Phyllis and that he did not use it for his personal benefit.
He later said that the KSh500,000 was transferred to Morris, Phyllis's brother, and that he had transaction evidence relating to the transfer.
Wema has strongly rejected the accusations circulating against him and says his involvement in Phyllis's case was motivated by a genuine desire to help.
Beyond the Phyllis case, Dan Wema has over the years been involved in helping vulnerable people, supporting families facing difficult circumstances and using his platform to mobilise assistance for people in need.
His supporters point to the many individuals and families who have benefited from his acts of kindness and charitable initiatives.
Speaking to HK Media today, Wema expressed his disappointment over the accusations and maintained that his intention has always been to help people wherever he can.
In an era where information spreads rapidly through social media, there is a need for people to be considerate when discussing individuals who have dedicated their platforms to helping others.
Questions and discussions may arise whenever public fundraising is involved, but they should be approached with fairness, respect and an understanding of the circumstances surrounding each case.
One controversy should not automatically erase the positive impact a person has had on the lives of others.
Dan Wema's record of supporting vulnerable people and responding to calls for help is part of the wider story that should also be remembered.
For HK Media, the conversation with Wema was an opportunity to give him space to explain his side directly and to allow the public to hear his account of what happened.
Wema remains firm in his position that the allegations against him are false and that his involvement in Phyllis's case was intended to ensure that she received help and medical support.
As the conversation continues, the most important thing is for people to approach the matter with humanity and consideration.
Dan Wema has helped many people before, and his contribution to those in need deserves to be remembered even as the discussion surrounding the Phyllis case continues.
