Technical SEO Blunders: The Hidden Traffic Killers
You know what keeps me up at night? The thought of perfectly good websites getting buried in search results because of technical issues that could be fixed in an afternoon. Let's talk about the biggest technical SEO mistakes I keep seeing (and trust me, I've seen a lot).
1. The Snail-Paced Website Problem:
Ever clicked on a website and found yourself counting the seconds until it loads? Yeah, Google hates that too. I recently audited a site that was taking 8 seconds to load – in internet time, that's practically an eternity.
Quick Fix:
Compress those massive images (I use tools like TinyPNG religiously)
Enable browser caching (your hosting provider probably has a one-click solution)
Clean up unnecessary plugins (you probably don't need 27 of them)
2. The Mobile Optimization Mess:
Here's a fun fact that might make you sweat: Google predominantly uses mobile-first indexing. Translation? If your site looks terrible on phones, you're basically shooting yourself in the foot.
Common Mobile Mistakes I Keep Seeing:
Text so small you need superhuman eyesight to read it
Buttons closer together than sardines in a can
Images that break the layout on smaller screens
Forms that make you want to throw your phone across the room
The Fix:
Start with Google's Mobile-Friendly Test. It's free, and it'll point out the obvious issues. Then, actually, try using your site on a phone. I mean really use it – try to fill out forms, click those tiny links, read those long paragraphs. If you find yourself getting frustrated, your visitors probably are too.
