The concrete door opening can be correct—and the final elevator entrance can still be wrong.

The missing information is often the finished floor and wall build-up. Screed, tile, stone, cladding and jamb fixing all affect how the entrance meets the completed lobby.

Coordinate the elevator entrance detail, architectural finish schedule and structural opening from one agreed finished-floor datum.

Send the door-zone section, not only the floor plan, when requesting JFUJI coordination input.

Pour the shaft first and coordinate the elevator later? That shortcut can turn a drawing issue into concrete modification.

Before structural work is frozen, confirm the clear shaft, pit, headroom, entrance arrangement, structural/MEP interfaces, power and service access requirements against the selected project configuration.

A generic rectangle is a starting point—not an installation-ready elevator plan.

Send JFUJI Elevator Kenya your floor count, floor heights and current shaft plan for a project coordination discussion.

Seven Questions a Lift-Shaft Drawing Must Answer

That box labelled “lift shaft” does not answer the questions the site team will face.

Is it a clear or structural dimension? From which level are the pit and headroom measured? Are the doors confirmed? Do beams, pipes or ducts enter the clear shaft? Are power, controller and access provisions coordinated? Does the architectural plan match the latest project layout?

Resolve the questions on the drawing—before they become RFIs on site.

Message “CHECKLIST” to request the drawing-review questions.

Visited a 21-storey 3-block apartment project in Kilimani, Nairobi, with two basements.
Question: Why elevators only stop at B1, not B2?
It’s a practical compromise for East Africa’s harsh site conditions:
Long rainy seasons + high groundwater = B2 heavy seepage & dampness
Elevator pits on B2 trap standing water; slow maintenance can’t drain it timely
Constant moisture corrodes rails, buffers & electrical sensors, causing frequent breakdowns, fast part aging & high long-term service costs
Local developers agree: Design elevators to only serve B1 at the planning stage, to eliminate pit water risks from the start.
Tailor elevator designs to local environments — that’s the key for African real estate.
Do you think this design choice makes sense for East Africa?

Who dares to take this risk?
Our JFUJI boss is standing directly under the elevator cabin.
We will cut the hoist rope live to verify the car safety protection device.
