TSC has announced plans to introduce Chinese language as a new subject in all schools across Kenya.

The demand for Chinese language teachers will be massive and the market will be wide open with very little competition.

Several universities in Kenya already offer Chinese language courses through Confucius Institutes, including University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Egerton University and Kabarak University, with programs ranging from certificates to degree level covering Mandarin, culture and proficiency testing.

Position yourself early so by the time everyone else realizes this opportunity, you will already be ahead.

The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) has officially introduced new consolidated music and audio visual tariffs that will run from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028, changing how DJs, businesses and media houses pay for music use.

Under the new regulations, DJs will be required to pay an annual license fee of KSh 30,000 or KSh 1,000 per event to legally play music in clubs, events and other public spaces. DJ academies, training programmes and music schools will pay KSh 20,000 annually.

The tariffs also affect multiple sectors. Nightclubs, casinos, bars, restaurants, hotels and Airbnbs will be charged 60 percent of their Single Business Permit. Private members clubs will pay up to KSh 100,000 annually in cities and KSh 75,000 in other areas.

Concert organisers will pay KSh 50,000 for local events and KSh 100,000 for international concerts, while live bands and resident performers will be charged KSh 50,000 in cities and KSh 20,000 in other regions.

Media houses will be required to pay 4 percent of their net revenue, with minimum fees set at KSh 500,000 for national radio and KSh 400,000 for national television. Regional stations will have slightly lower minimums.

Retail and public spaces such as supermarkets, salons and public transport operators will also pay fees based on size, location or capacity, with charges ranging from KSh 3,000 to over KSh 200,000.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Nairobi and surrounding counties over the next 24 hours.

In a rainfall update issued on Thursday afternoon, Met said that the rainfall will mainly affect areas within the highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, from 9 pm.

β€œModerate to heavy rainfall expected in parts of Nairobi and surrounding counties over the next 24 hours (09:00 today – 09:00 tomorrow),” stated Met.

β€œShowers and thunderstorms expected over a few places tonight in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, which include Nyeri County, Murang’a County, Kirinyaga County, Embu County, Meru County, Kiambu County, Tharaka-Nithi County, Laikipia County and Nyandarua County.”

According to the forecast, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning before giving way to sunny intervals, with a chance of light rain in high-ground areas.

β€œShowers and thunderstorms expected over a few places in the afternoon,” the forecast added.

Elsewhere across the country, the meteorological department said sunny intervals are expected in most regions, although rainfall will occur in parts of the highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley as well as the south-eastern lowlands.

In western Kenya, including counties in the Lake Victoria Basin such as Kisumu County, Kakamega County, Bungoma County and Siaya County, showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places tonight and in the afternoon.

The forecast also warned of strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) in parts of Turkana County and Marsabit County.

Coastal counties, including Mombasa County, Kwale County, Kilifi County, Lamu County and Tana River County, are expected to experience light showers tonight, with more rainfall likely in the morning and afternoon, especially along the south coast.
