Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has made his stance clear regarding a potential move to Napoli, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the Danish forward wants long-term assurances before committing to a loan switch.
Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford looks increasingly uncertain as the transfer window edges closer to its September 1 deadline. The 21-year-old was left out of United’s squad in their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend, a decision widely seen as a sign that he is no longer a central part of Ruben Amorim’s plans. Sources indicate he has been told playing time will be limited this season, making an exit the most realistic option.
AC Milan were initially front-runners for his signature, but their interest has cooled after turning attention to Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface. That development has reopened the door for Napoli, who are in urgent need of a striker following Romelu Lukaku’s injury setback.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier that Napoli are confident of reaching an agreement with United for a loan deal, believing Hojlund could provide Antonio Conte with much-needed depth in attack as the club look to defend their Serie A crown.
While Napoli are pushing hard, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Hojlund is not willing to accept a simple short-term move. Writing on X, Romano stated:
“Napoli have made new contact with Man United today for Rasmus Højlund deal, talks underway. Højlund’s camp also in talks with Napoli as player’s keen on the move while also wants guarantees to stay at the club in future, not a simple loan.”
This condition indicates that Hojlund wants security beyond the current season, potentially in the form of an obligation to buy clause once the loan expires. However, whether Napoli will meet that demand remains to be seen.
With less than two weeks left in the transfer window, the striker’s future is hanging in the balance. What’s clear is that Hojlund is open to Italy — but only if the deal secures him a lasting role rather than a temporary fix.
