Kenyan businesses have a weird habit.

Someone opens a business today…

Tomorrow the first thing they do is print a flyer with 17 phone numbers, 9 colours, “quality services”, “best prices”, and somehow expect customers to trust them instantly.

Then when nobody engages…

They blame the algorithm.

No boss.

The problem is this:

Most brands in Kenya still post like it’s 2016.

People have changed.

Attention spans zimeenda.
Competition imekuwa brutal.
Everyone is fighting for the same customer.

And here’s the controversial part:

Some businesses don’t have a marketing problem.

They have a trust problem.

Because tell me honestly…

If your page disappeared today, would people even notice?

That question disturbed me.

That’s when I understood why some small brands are exploding online while bigger businesses stay invisible.

It’s not money.

It’s relatability.
Storytelling.
Human psychology.

People don’t share posters anymore.

They share emotions.

And brands that don’t understand that this year…
zitaumia vibaya online.

No shortcuts.

A few days ago, I sealed a deal…

And no—I didn’t go looking for it.

A friend sent my name.

Simple.

But here’s what most people don’t understand about referrals…

People don’t just recommend you because you’re available.

They recommend you because of what they’ve already seen.

The silent work.
The consistency.
The way you think.

When I got the call, it wasn’t about convincing anyone.

It was about proving something that was already believed.

We talked.

I broke down a few things most people overlook.
Showed what was missing.
Painted what growth could actually look like.

No pressure.

Just clarity.

There was a short silence…

Then:
“Let’s work.”

Deal sealed.

That’s when it hit me

Opportunities don’t always come from chasing.

Sometimes…

They come from how you’ve been showing up when no one was watching.

So the real question is:

If someone mentions your name today…

What would they say?

Let's engage today

Unpopular opinion this :

Some people are not broke because of the economy…
they’re broke because they refuse to adapt.

Yes, are real.
Yes, cost of living is high.
Yes, the conversation matters.

But let’s be honest for a second…

If one rainy day can stop your income completely,
is the problem really the rain?

That question bothered him.

Because while others were stuck in traffic complaining…
he noticed something different.

People were still on their phones.
Still scrolling.
Still consuming content.

Meaning attention never stops.

That’s when it clicked:
The real opportunity isn’t outside.
It’s online.

So he stopped waiting for better conditions…
and started building something that works in any condition.

Rain or no rain.

Now ask yourself:
Are you building something that survives disruption…
or something that depends on perfect weather?

Be honest.

Tonny asked me something the other day that made sense immediately.

He said, “How is it that one of my pages keeps growing, yet I barely post there… but the one I post on every day is struggling?”

That question is more common than people think.

Both of his pages looked good.
Both were branded well.
Both had content.

But one was attracting followers naturally, while the other felt like hard work with little return.

So we looked deeper.

The page that was growing had something simple many people ignore — identity.

When someone visited it, they instantly understood what it was about.

The content felt connected.
The message was clear.
People knew what to expect.

The second page was active, but mixed.

A little motivation here.
Random trends there.
Different topics every week.

It wasn’t bad content… it just wasn’t memorable.

And that’s where many pages struggle.

Posting every day can help, but posting without direction usually leads to frustration.

People don’t just follow activity.

They follow pages that make sense to them.

So I told Tonny to simplify things:

Pick one clear audience.
Choose a few topics to be known for.
Make your posts feel connected.
Give people a reason to remember the page.

Sometimes growth is not about doing more.

It’s about becoming clearer.

If your page feels slow right now, maybe you don’t need to work harder.

Maybe you just need stronger direction.

I once watched a business spend money every week on ads… and still stay invisible.

That confused me.

Because the products were good.
The owner was hardworking.
The budget was real.

So where was everything going?

Then I looked closer.

The page had no identity.
Different colors every week.
Random captions.
Low-quality photos.
No clear message.
No reason to remember them.

They were paying for attention… but giving people nothing to trust.

And that’s where many businesses fail.

They think branding is just a logo.

It’s not.

Branding is the feeling people get when they land on your page.

It’s the first impression.
The tone of your captions.
The consistency of your visuals.
The confidence in your message.

Before people buy, they ask themselves one silent question:

“Can I trust this business?”

If your page looks confused, rushed, or inconsistent… most people leave quietly.

Then the owner says, “Ads don’t work.”

Sometimes ads are working.

They’re bringing people to a page that isn’t ready.

And that mistake costs many people a lot of money.

Because every click you pay for matters.

I’ve seen small businesses with tiny budgets win simply because their branding felt clear and believable.

And I’ve seen bigger budgets disappear because the page looked forgettable.

So before you boost another post… ask yourself:

If a stranger lands on my page today, what would they feel?

Because marketing gets attention.

But branding is what turns attention into trust.

And trust is what turns views into sales.
