Updates on Unity State
Dear colleagues,
This afternoon, tension escalated in southern Unity State, specifically in Leer County. Reports indicate that forces from IG and IO exchanged gunfire at approximately 4:15 PM. Tragically, a child estimated to be between 12–13 years old was killed while returning home from school.
The fighting reportedly started over a dispute related to the administration leadership of Guat Payam in Leer County, which was previously under IO administration.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the situation remains highly tense. It is also being reported that the state government is transporting additional forces (“Terchuong”) from Mayom to Leer County to support IG forces in tomorrow’s enforcement operations.

According to and , the people of Bentiu and Ruweng lived together peacefully before the current administrative changes introduced under President Salva Kiir’s leadership.

Our communities respected one another and worked together under inspiring leadership without tribal divisions.
I expressed concern that the current leadership has contributed to growing disunity among the citizens of South Sudan.
I appealed to the people of Bentiu and Ruweng to rethink the political strategies that, in his view, are weakening their shared wealth, peace, and love for one another.
Unity among our people is more important than political divisions,” Calle said. “We must work together for peace, development, and the future of South Sudan.

Police Seize Two Sacks of Bullets Bound for Juba in Aweil

Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal have intercepted two sacks of bullets at the Wau–Juba bus station in Aweil on Tuesday.

According to authorities, the ammunition was reportedly being sent to Juba under the order of Vice President Bol Malel.
However, police say investigations are still underway to verify the details surrounding the shipment.

Officials noted that the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb the movement of illegal weapons across South Sudan.
