Your experience might be world-class, but marketing won't speak for itself.

You still have to tell the story, post the reels and show people why they should choose you, consistently.

Are you marketing enough?

19/08/2026

Airbnb is a booking platform, not your entire marketing strategy.

Two reels + three posts a week, done consistently, can build familiarity, trust and eventually more direct bookings.

How much of your business depends on Airbnb?

Why is Kenya's off-grid scene the hardest tourism product to market, and simultaneously the biggest opportunity?

Let me explain the paradox.

Off-grid properties have three natural disadvantages when it comes to social media.

Disadvantage 1: The owners are building experiences, not marketing systems.

The person who spent three years designing a glass-walled cabin facing Mt. Kenya, sourcing ethically made furniture, and figuring out how to run solar power and rainwater collection and still provide hot showers- that person has very little left over for content creation. The obsession that produced the extraordinary property is the same obsession that leaves no bandwidth for Instagram.

Disadvantage 2: The location makes content creation harder.

When you are four hours from Nairobi on a murram road, you cannot call a photographer on Tuesday afternoon. The logistics of content production for remote properties are genuinely more complex than for an urban hotel.

Disadvantage 3: The product is impossible to explain without visuals, and most off-grid owners are not videographers.

"It's hard to describe; you have to experience it" is the most common thing guests say about great off-grid properties. And it is also the thing that makes marketing them difficult. The experience needs to be shown. Not described. And most property owners do not know how to show it in a format that the algorithm distributes.

Now the opportunity.

Off-grid stays saw nearly 99% growth in global searches. The demand is there and growing. And in Kenya, most off-grid properties are relying on Airbnb algorithms and word of mouth, meaning the properties that add a working social media system to that mix face almost no competition in that channel.

An off-grid cabin in Nanyuki that posts one Reel per week is automatically more visible than every other off-grid cabin in Nanyuki that doesn't.

The bar to stand out is low because almost nobody is clearing it.

Where is your off-grid or unique property on this spectrum right now?

1. We have a working social media system, and it's generating bookings
2. We post occasionally, but it's inconsistent, and we're not sure it's working
3. We rely almost entirely on Airbnb and word of mouth
4. We haven't started social media at all

Ever seen a place and thought, "This is also in Kenya?"

We have incredible hidden gems, but too many remain invisible online. A great experience means little if nobody knows you exist.

Something different is happening on the page this week.

We're not talking about hotels. Not restaurants. Not tour operators.

We're talking about Kenya's off-grid spaces, the luxury cabins, glamping tents, container homes, and wilderness retreats that are redefining what accommodation means in this country.

Properties charging KES 20,000 to KES 40,000 a night. Properties with 4.9 and 5.0 Airbnb reviews. Properties that guests call "unlike anything I've experienced anywhere in the world."

Properties that almost nobody can find on social media.

If you own, manage, or know one of these spaces, or if you work in Kenya's tourism industry and this conversation is one you want to be part of, Kenya Tourism & Hospitality Marketing is where it's happening this week.

Inside the group this week:
→ Monday: a live audit of an off-grid property's social media presence
→ Tuesday: the content formula specifically for off-grid and glamping spaces
→ Wednesday: why off-grid properties are the hardest to market and the easiest to stand out with
→ Thursday: the foreign owner advantage — and how expats running Kenya spaces can reach global audiences
→ Friday: the Off-Grid Social Media Playbook — the complete content system for properties in remote locations

Somewhere outside Nanyuki, there is a luxury container home sitting on 1,200 acres of private estate with views of Mt. Kenya, Egyptian cotton bedding, a personal chef, Starlink WiFi, and a rain shower.

It charges KES 40,000 a night.

You have probably never heard of it.

That is not because it isn't extraordinary. It is because the people who built it are extraordinary at creating experiences and invisible at telling the world those experiences exist.

This is Kenya's off-grid paradox.

The country is dotted with some of the most visually stunning, emotionally arresting, uniquely positioned accommodation experiences on the planet. Glass-walled A-frames facing Mount Kenya. Luxury glamping tents with infinity pools and yoga spots in the Aberdares. Off-grid cabins in the Ngong Hills with archery ranges and fireplaces an hour from Nairobi. Solar-powered eco-retreats on the shores of Lake Naivasha where guests fall asleep to the sound of hippos.

Properties that guests describe, every time, without exception, as "unlike anything I've ever experienced anywhere."

Properties with Airbnb reviews at 4.9 and 5.0 stars.

Properties that are booked through word of mouth and Airbnb algorithms because they have no social media system of their own.

Online sales are expected to generate 75% of total tourism revenue by 2030. Africa is recording 10% growth in international arrivals, leading every region on earth.
Nairobi Marketing

The demand is real. The product is world-class. The visibility is almost nonexistent.

That gap, between what Kenya's off-grid spaces offer and how findable they are, is the most expensive invisible problem in Kenya's tourism industry right now.

This week I'm talking about it directly.

Do you know an off-grid space, luxury cabin, or glamping property in Kenya that deserves more visibility than it has? Tag it below or drop the name in the comments.

Let's make this week a discovery thread.

Being called a "hidden gem" sounds great, until you realize it means people haven't found you yet.

Your space can stay special while while becoming more visible.

Is your business a hidden gem or an easy-to-find gem?

17/08/2026

Charging KSh 40k a night but still managing your own DMs, comments and social media?

At some point, you have to let an expert handle the visibility while you focus on the experience.

Would you outsource your social media?

14/08/2026

"How much do you charge?" The honest answer: it depends.

From a simple bio revamp to a complete social media takeover or Meta ads, we tailor the work to what your business actually needs.

What would you need help with?

14/08/2026

6 followers to 503 in 11 weeks. No magic, No viral moment. Just a system, consistency and showing up week after week.

Imagine what that could do for your business.

Are you ready to build your system?
