Sixth Session of the National Assembly, Sixth Legislature Approves Planned Agendas.............
The sixth session of the National Assembly, sixth legislature, under highly presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, approved the nine planned agendas, on the morning of June 24, 2021.
The nine agendas contain the message of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, King of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the 6th session of the National Assembly of the 6th legislature. A brief report on the activities of the National Assembly between the 5th and 6th sessions of the 6th legislature, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, announced that in order to reduce the duration of the National Assembly session today in the aim at participating in measures to prevent the spread of Covid -19, the President of the National Assembly did not read the summary report, assigning the task to the General Secretariat of the National Assembly to distribute to all deputies and disseminate it to the public.
Decision on the validity of the mandate of the two elected candidates of the 6th National Assembly to replace the resigned members, namely H.E. Khem Chankiri, member of Parliament for Kandal province, replacing H.E. Ngor Sovann, who resigned and H.E. Men Kuon, member of Parliament for Tbong Khmum province to replace H.E. Prach Chan, who resigned and voted in favor of H.E. Peach Chan to be as President of the National Election Committee and voted to select Lok Chumteav Pov Sopheap as a member of the Legislative and Justice Committee of the National Assembly.
Due to the resignation of the Chairman and Secretary of Human Rights Commission for Complaints, Investigation, and National Assembly and Senate Relations of the National Assembly had resigned, So the Human Rights Commission for Complaints, Investigations and National Assembly and Senate Relations of the National Assembly shall convene to elect a new Chairman and Secretary with the results as following: (1) His Excellency Sor Chamrong was elected as Chairman of the Human Rights Commission for Complaints, Investigations and National Assembly and Senate Relations of the National Assembly. (2) His Excellency Suon Rindy was elected as Secretary of Human Rights Commission for Complaints, Investigations, and National Assembly Senate Relations of the National Assembly.
To the discussion and approval of the draft law, the National Assembly session unanimously approved the Draft Law on the Approval of the Payment Guarantee of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Snetec Co., Ltd, for a development project of 500 kV transmission line from Battambang to the Cambodian-Thai border. Draft Law on the Approval of the Payment Guarantee of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Snetec Co., Ltd, for a development of a 500 KV transmission line from Phnom Penh to the Cambodia-Laos border. Draft Law on the Approval of the Payment Guarantee of the Royal Government of Cambodia to the Electricity Company of Vietnam of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the guarantee for purchasing of electricity from Vietnam, and the Draft Law on the Approval of the Payment Guarantee of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia to China National Heavy Machinery Corporation for the 150 MW Stung Tatai Hydropower Development Project in Koh Kong province.
The above four draft laws are in response to the rapid development of the nation, where demand for electricity is steadily increasing.While the country enjoys peace and has politically stable, it has led to the development of the national economy in all the fields, and has gradually improved the living standards of the people. At the same time, demand for electricity has increased at a high rate.
In response to this growing demand for electricity, the Royal Government, with the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Ministry of Economy and Finance as its staff, has taken care to promote the development of the energy sector, including power sources and transmission lines, to ensure for adequate electricity supply, sustainability, stability, efficiency, and affordable price.
These four draft laws are in line with agreements reached by the Royal Government with friendly countries and investment partners to ensure the development of electricity supply, to provide credibility, and to attract more investors.
During the discussion of the above draft law, H.E. Kittisetha Dr. Cheam Yeap, Chairman of Committee on Economy, Finance, Banking and Auditing of the National Assembly, reported to the National Assembly on the results of the study of the draft law, and H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy and colleagues representing the Royal Government as defenders of the draft law.
