“I’m Darren and I’m from Changzhou, Jiangsu, China. I came to Korea many years ago, and after having experienced both studying and working here, my feelings tell me it’s time to go back to where I grew up and start a new chapter in my life.
It’s hard for me to speak out which exact part l like of Seoul, but I already made a deep emotional connection with this city. The people I met, different nationalities, different cultures, even different personalities. My mind has been opened and I’ve also been allowed to let my thoughts grow as well.
As for Korean culture, I can feel the same part as ours from a long time ago (1980s probably), and while the economy has grown quickly, the modern metropolitan culture of Seoul’s has gradually taken shape. As a foreigner, the process of being a part of and learning about this is so amazing. And of course, there are also some parts about living here that I’m still curious about. I still don’t know much about or be able to get a feel for how the Korean family and how their family culture is, and even how they raise their child; I would like to learn about this still but I’m not sure how it would be possible. The closest time was seeing moms picking up their children from elementary school at noon with handmade lunches — seeing this warms up my heart.
And I’ll thank Hindson especially, we once had a conversation and that was a moment that let me be aware of myself and my potential. That is one of the reasons I have the ability to let my mind get inside of art, and I’ll keep going, keep finding out what I am.
As for anyone coming to Korea, don’t hesitate, once you have any thoughts of coming here, take off right now! You won’t know if you like it until you are here.”
