ILLEGAL SURGERY EXPOSED: LOFA MEDICAL CENTER ADMINISTRATOR ADMITS TO OPERATING WITHOUT A LICENSE
In a stunning development during cross-examination in an ongoing trial concerning the death of deceased Samuel P. Kollie, the administrator of the Lofa Medical Center, Sam S. Worlubah, made alarming admissions under oath — confirming he is not a licensed medical doctor or surgeon, yet performed surgery on the deceased.
Worlubah, the first defense witness, had earlier testified to conducting a surgical procedure on the late Samuel Kollie, who was brought in for abdominal pain in March 2025. However, under questioning from the prosecution, he admitted that he served only as an administrator and had no medical license.
“Are you not a medical doctor?” the prosecutor asked.
“Yes,” Worlubah replied.
Further questioning revealed that the Lofa Medical Center was not legally authorized to carry out surgeries.
This prompted a strong objection from the defense, calling the question unconstitutional and incriminating. However, the presiding judge overruled, noting that the prosecution had the right to examine the legality of the actions described under Liberian law.
“The objection is hereby overruled and the witness should answer the question,” the judge ruled. Worlubah responded simply, “Yes.”
This revelation adds a troubling layer to the case, which involves allegations of medical negligence, unauthorized medical practice, and the unlawful death of a patient. The court previously heard that the patient may have died after being fed against medical advice and before a surgical procedure that the facility was not licensed to perform.
The case has since prompted investigations by the Liberia Medical and Dental Council, which shut down the Lofa Medical Clinic shortly after the incident. Public health advocates are now calling for a broader audit of private health facilities operating across Liberia.
Court proceedings are set to continue this week, as prosecutors push for accountability over what they describe as a "gross violation of public health and patient safety."
