HER Impact Liberia!

Meet Liz Kam❤️

From Liberia to global platforms, Elizabeth journey is a powerful reflection of purpose and unwavering determination.

Her story began in Liberia, where she distinguished herself academically at St. Michael Catholic Elementary School and later at St. Teresa’s Convent. A recipient of the prestigious JJ Roberts Scholarship, Liz quickly emerged as a young leader, serving as Debate Captain, Head of the Press Club, and Vice President.

Her educational journey later took her to the United States, where she graduated from high school with highest honors. Yet despite the opportunities abroad, her heart remained connected to home. In 2014, she returned to Liberia and enrolled at Stella Maris Polytechnic University, where she maintained a perfect GPA and earned national recognition for academic excellence. Her outstanding performance opened doors internationally, leading her to Uganda, where she graduated as valedictorian (dux) in Environmental Science in 2018.

Liz’s impact has never been limited to the classroom. She build opportunities where none existed, balancing work, teaching, mentoring, and service all at once. From conservation initiatives in Nigeria to wildlife protection efforts in Sapo National Park, from mentoring students in Liberia to contributing to global research spaces, she consistently demonstrated a commitment to growth, service, and excellence.

Her pursuit of knowledge later led her to the University of Milan, where she graduated summa cm laude, earning top honors alongside a prestigious scholarship. Her journey continued to New York, where she contributed to sustainable development efforts through her work with the United Nations. She also worked with Conservation International.

In April of this year, she also became a certified Project Management Professional. Currently, she is pursuing a fully funded PhD at the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment.

Her message is simple, yet powerful: “Keep going, even when it’s hard, especially when it’s hard”.

Elizabeth story is more than a list of achievements; it’s a reminder to every young girl that greatness is possible, no matter where you begin or no matter your age.

Please celebrate Elizabeth and please share to inspire other young women🫶🏾❤️❤️

HER Impact Liberia!

Our first spotlight feature is someone truly inspiring. Today, we proudly spotlight a woman whose journey reflects resilience, purpose, impact and inspiration.

Meet Cynthia Howard❤️

Cynthia Howard, a proud native of Nimba County, Liberia, is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and unwavering faith in one’s dreams. Raised in Sanniquellie City, her educational journey began at St. Mary’s Elementary School, where she studied until primary five. Following her family’s relocation to Monrovia, Cynthia continued her education at St. Kizito Catholic School, where she completed her secondary studies.

From an early age, Cynthia understood the value of hard work and sacrifice. As a young street vendor, she balanced the demands of survival with an unshakable commitment to education. Rather than allowing her circumstances to define her, she used them as motivation to build a better future not only for herself, but for her family.

In 2014, Cynthia earned her Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Stella Maris Polytechnic (Mother Patern College of Health Sciences), graduating with honors and achieving the highest GPA in her cohort. Her academic excellence opened doors to impactful opportunities during one of Liberia’s most challenging periods the Ebola outbreak. She served on the frontlines as a Medical Laboratory Technician, working with organizations such as ACCEL, WHO, and Tappita Hospital. During this time, she received multiple trainings and certifications, as well as national recognition for her contributions.

Driven to advance her knowledge and impact, Cynthia pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in 2016, completing it in 2018. Her journey was supported by a scholarship from the Rotary Club of Liberia. She went on to work with PREVAIL and Catholic Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

In 2019, Cynthia earned a prestigious World Bank scholarship to pursue a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Molecular Cell Biology of Infectious Diseases at the University of Ghana. Her research on bat flies contributed to understanding infectious disease transmission and led to an opportunity at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2021 as a Research Scholar.

Cynthia has also worked in the United States with Allina Health and Fairview as both a Medical Laboratory Scientist and Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist. She is board-certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Beyond her professional achievements, Cynthia considers her greatest accomplishment to be motherhood. She is a proud mother to her daughters, Bianca and Brielle, who inspire her every day.

Currently, Cynthia is pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), expanding her impact into patient care. Her goal is to combine her scientific background with compassionate healthcare delivery.

Cynthia’s story is a beacon of hope. Her message is simple: no matter where you start, your dreams are valid. With persistence and belief, you can create the life you desire. Her ultimate goal is to travel the world with her daughters and give them opportunities she once only dreamed of.

Introducing: Her Impact Liberia!

We are excited to launch “Her Impact Liberia”, a weekly spotlight campaign under the Liberian Women Festival. This campaign is dedicated to celebrating Liberian women who are making impact across every field; business, leadership, education, health, creativity, community etc.

Every week, we will share the stories of women who are building, leading, healing, creating and transforming Liberia through their work and passion. We will also share the stories of Liberian women in the diaspora who are representing Liberia with pride and making a name for themselves across the world.

This campaign is where HER story is seen. HER voice is heard. HER impact is felt. Because building a nation takes more than one story; it’s many women, many journeys, and one powerful impact✊🏾
