Liberian Scholar Graduates with MSc in Tourism Management from China, Eyes Development Back Home
YULIN CITY, CHINA — A Liberian student Amb David Leviticus Cassell has successfully concluded his academic journey abroad, graduating with a Master of Science (MSc) in Tourism Management from Yulin University in Shaanxi Province, China.
The graduate, who spent three years pursuing his degree, successfully completed all academic requirements, including passing his HSK language examinations and defending his thesis. He was among only 11 students out of a cohort of 30 to successfully complete the rigorous program.
Reflecting on his journey, the graduate dedicated the milestone to his late mother, Alice Y. Cassell, crediting her foresight for his decision to specialize in tourism. He noted that her encouragement proved prophetic, as he observed the growing focus on the tourism sector in Liberia’s national agenda during his time abroad.
He also expressed profound gratitude to his father, Ambassador Zinnah Amb Zinnah Divine Cassell , for the financial and emotional sacrifices made to support his education.
Despite facing significant challenges as the only West African student at his university including experiences of isolation and discrimination the scholar emphasized that these obstacles only strengthened his resolve.
"I did not come this far merely to celebrate a degree," the graduate stated. "I came to build a legacy. I look forward to contributing my knowledge, research skills, and international experience toward sustainable tourism development, environmental conservation, and economic growth in Liberia."
Now armed with an international education, he plans to return to his home country to apply his expertise, aiming to transform his academic achievement into a catalyst for national development and a source of inspiration for future generations of Liberians.
