African equity markets moved in a more contrasted manner this week, with momentum remaining solid in West and East Africa, while North Africa entered a phase of consolidation. Ghana once again stood out, advancing 9.01% over the week and bringing its year-to-date performance to 46.74% in local currency, confirming its position as the continent’s best-performing market. The BRVM gained 3.81%, now up 20.81% since January, with equally robust performance in US dollar terms. In East Africa, Kenya rose 2.95% and Tanzania 2.63%, the latter maintaining an impressive 44.35% YTD gain in local currency. South Africa also posted a strong weekly increase of 4.42%. By contrast, Nigeria declined 1.11% despite a still solid YTD performance (+23.91% in local currency and +32.24% in USD), while Morocco (-3.00%) and Egypt (-2.87%) weighed on the North African trend.
