AI must say it's AI.

2 August 2026. The EU AI Act's transparency rules apply across all 27 member states.

→ Chatbots must disclose they're AI → AI-generated images, audio, video and text must carry a machine-readable mark → Deepfakes must be labelled → Emotion recognition must be declared

Two traps: if you licensed the chatbot on your site, you're the deployer — your vendor's compliance isn't yours. And "Generated with AI" in your footer isn't machine-readable; Article 50 wants metadata, not a caption.

Systems already live get until 2 December 2026 to carry the mark. New ones don't. Fines run to €15M or 3% of worldwide turnover.

The high-risk deadlines were pushed to 2027 and 2028. This one wasn't.

One rule catches people out: the pre-analysis comes before the application, and the application before you sign with a supplier. Start building first and the eligibility is gone.

A registered mark since 1984, it certifies that a product or service genuinely originates in Luxembourg. It covers services, not just goods — so web, software and AI work qualify on the same basis as anything manufactured.
