FAM ACCEPTS NEW FIFA PROPOSAL

FAM President Fleetwood Haiya has backed world governing body, FIFA's plan to create a subsidiary to run the World Cup and its other events, and offer stakes of up to 20 percent in it to external investors.

The move has provoked a furious response from bodies like European Football Authority ,UEFA and the Asian Football Confederation, AFC which say ⁠FIFA is seling the game.

However, FAM president Haiya says Gianni Infantino and FIFA should have implemented this long ago .Says it is the same as what FAM is doing by identifying companies to run some of its businesses including Mpira Hotel and Restaurant.

Infantino has set a September . 19 deadline for the 211 member federations to approve his proposed private investment plan, which would give each association access to up to $40 million which is equivalent to K69.3 bilion in funding.

Haiya has lauded the cash offer saying it would help improve football infrastructure in Malawi.The FAM boss says Malawi needs new and moden stadium and the FIFA cash offer will help fund these projects.

AFC joins opposition to FIFA investment plan.

The Asian Football Confederation says it stands with UEFA and Concacaf against the proposal to sell stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors.

In a statement, the AFC said Gianni Infantino's proposal could not "realistically achieve the necessary broad consensus and unity required to move forward".
