The Airtel Top 8 Cup final season Six is expected to be played in the first week of January, 2024, Football Association of Malawi reveals.
The development comes in after the FAM Appeals Committee's determination which ruled that Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have been booted out of the tournament after losing to Silver Strikers in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
In a notice released by the Association, Silver Strikers will face Mafco FC in the semi-final of the tournament on December 26, 2023 at the Bingu National Stadium.
"Appeal [of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers] is partly allowed in respect of the two sanctions of MK2, 000, 000 ( Two Million Kwacha) and MK500, 000. 00 ( Five hundred thousand Kwacha) for bringing the game into disrepute and failure to control fans which have been scrapped off.
"The rest of the Appeal is dismissed. The rest of the decision of the FAM Disciplinary Committee is upheld. ( Forfeiture of the match and the restitutory fine of MK22, 083, 400)," reads the press release in part.
FAM has scheduled the finals of the tournament for January 6, 2024 at Bingu National Stadium.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have already reached the final stage of the competition after booting out Civil Service United and Blue Eagles in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively, there y becoming the first team to reach the pinnacle of the tournament three times in three consecutive years, and they have a record of four tournament's finals.
Silver Strikers are the tournament's record winners after winning it twice while Bullets have lost two finals of the trophy in 2018 and 2022 to Blue Eagles and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers respectively.
