SENIOR CHIEF MALEMIA DIES

Senior Chief Malemia of Nsanje has died, Nsanje District Commissioner, Dominic Mwandira, confirmed in an interview with MBC.

Mwandira said Senior Chief Malemia died this morning at a hospital in Blantyre where he was admitted to last week Thursday.

He further said the burial programme will be communicated in due course by his family.

EX-CHITAKALE TEA ESTATE WORKERS DISPERSED AGAIN

Earlier today, police in Mulanje reportedly fired teargas to disperse angry former workers for Chitakale Tea Plantation Company who stormed the site demanding their salary arrears.

The incident disrupted business activities at Chitakale main market and surrounding places.

The concerned people claim the company, which belongs to business magnate, Leston Mulli, is yet to settle their payments.

One of the concerned ex-workers who pleaded for anonymity allege the company stopped them after many years but didn't pay them their arrears.

"We come here to ask for our money, but we don't know what's going on between the police and the owner of the company. We only came to ask for our money and police are chasing us," he said.

Some reports indicate that some people suspected to be ex-workers of Chitakale Estate have been stealing the estate’s property, mainly trees in anger that the company owes them dues.

ROAD ACCIDENT KILLS 6-YEAR-OLD BOY

A 6-year-old boy identified as Shadreck Robert, has died after being hit by a vehicle at Chitakale Tea Plantation in Mulanje district.

Mulanje Police Spokesperson Innocent Moses says the accident involved a Toyota Ractis registration number NN 6103 which was coming from the direction of Muloza, along Mulanje-Lutchenza road, heading to Chitakale Trading Center.

He adds upon arrival at Chitakale Tea Plantation due to over speeding; the driver of the vehicle hit Robert, who was crossing the road at the time.

"He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mulanje District Hospital due to sustained multiple head injuries and franctured ribs on the right side," explains Moses.

The deceased hailed from Mangani Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikumbu in the district.

Mulanje police public relations officer sergeant innocent Moses confirm the incident by saying that Alex Mangoni, 31, was driving a Toyota Ractis registration number NN 6103 from the direction of Muloza, along Mulanje-Lutchenza road, heading Chitakale trading.

" Upon arrival at Chitakale Tea Plantation due to over speeding, hit a young male pedestrian who was crossing the road at the time." Moses explain.

Unfortunately, he pronounced dead upon arrival at Mulanje District Hospital due to sunstained multiple head injuries and franctured ribs on the right side.

The deceased hailed from Mangani Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje District.

Meanwhile, police in Mulanje are advising road users to follow all road rules and regulations in order to avoid such accidents.
