The rainfall forecast for the 2026–2027 rainy season in Zomba has now been released.

According to the forecast, the 2026–2027 rainy season is expected to be influenced by a strong El Niño phenomenon. El Niño refers to above-average warming of sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, which can affect rainfall patterns across the world.

Zomba is expected to receive normal to below-normal rainfall during the 2026–2027 rainy season.
Residents are encouraged to continue paying attention to forecasts and advisories from the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services.

Police in Chitipa have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the murder of a man who was accused of stealing cooking oil.

The suspect is Isaac Chipofya, while the deceased was Lameck Sibale, 35, of Mwakaseka Village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia.

Chitipa Police Deputy PRO, Sergeant Mathews Mfune, confirmed that Chipofya was arrested on September 15, 2026, after intelligence-led investigations.

According to police, Sibale was assaulted by community members on the night of March 15, 2026, after he was allegedly found hiding a 20-litre bucket of Meru Gold cooking oil in a maize field.

Sibale sustained serious injuries and died the following day, March 16, 2026, at Chitipa District Hospital.

Mfune said Chipofya had been on the run and was arrested at his hiding place.

He is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon to answer a murder charge.

A well-coordinated intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of a suspected cannabis dealer in Chitipa on Friday night.

Chitipa Police spokesperson Rabson Mkandawire said Clement W***y Sichali, 41, from Namuyemba Village under Senior Chief Mwaulambya, was found with a stash of Cannabis Sativa.

The operation followed reports that Sichali was illegally trading in the substance.

A search of his house uncovered 125 twists of cannabis weighing 821 grams packed in a plastic bag.

Sichali remains in police custody pending court appearance for being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa without a licence.

Wellspring International Church has welcomed Apostle Eric Forsythe, Pastor Joshua Long and Pastor Allen into Malawi for its annual revival program in Machinjiri.

The revival, themed "Jesus Has Done It," is a yearly event organized by Wellspring Church USA, the headquarters of Wellspring International Church. The Malawi branch is headed by Pastor Peter Mlera.

Speaking ahead of the event, Pastor Mlera said preparations have been finalized and invited all Malawians in Machinjiri and surrounding areas to attend.

Commenting on the visit, Prince Charles OluwaGbemiga Aransiola of Bwana On The Street Show, who is also the Resident Pastor of Winners Chapel International, Machinjiri, said the presence of the men of God shows God's love for Malawi.

He added that last year's event was impactful and expressed optimism that this year's revival will be even greater and bring spiritual awakening to all.

The revival is underway in Machinjiri, Blantyre.

Two men killed during the rescue of British national Nasrat Osman have been identified.

Police say they are Marcolino Munguambe, 43, from Mozambique, and Limbani Anthony, 44, from Mangochi.

Inspector General Richard Luhanga said the two died in a shootout with police at Mpemba in Chadzunda on Thursday.

Osman was rescued in the same operation after being kidnapped in Mount Pleasant, Blantyre last week.

Director of Maranatha Academy, Enerst Kaonga, has offered a full Form 1 to Form 4 scholarship to Duwama Muhammad, the only girl who sat for Standard 8 exams at Mangale Primary School in Mangochi.

Duwama was the only girl among 27 boys after her classmates dropped out due to pregnancy and early marriage. The school had not had a girl reach Standard 8 from 2017 to 2021.

The scholarship covers tuition, boarding and learning

South Africa has confirmed 18 cases of mpox following a recent rise in local infections, a development that has prompted health authorities to urge heightened public vigilance.

Health officials say surveillance has been intensified and contact tracing is underway to curb further spread of the virus. Members of the public have been advised to seek medical attention promptly if they develop symptoms and to avoid close physical contact with anyone showing signs of infection.

Mpox is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or infected animals. According to health authorities, the disease commonly presents with fever, headache and muscle aches, back pain and extreme fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, as well as rash or skin lesions on the face, hands, feet or ge****ls.

Authorities have further advised the public to observe good hygiene practices, wash hands regularly, and avoid contact with skin lesions of infected individuals. Healthcare workers have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspected cases without delay.

The Ministry of Health has assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored and has pledged to provide regular updates as more information becomes available.
