With years of experience working for Atlassian on Jira development, the Digital Toucan team was no stranger to the Marketplace, and they had what it took to create a successful app.

However, even the best apps can stagnate in the crowded Marketplace. At the time, there were a little over 4,000 apps in the Atlassian Marketplace, and standing out was already a challenge.

Long story short, we helped implement a full go-to-market solution for the JQL Search Extensions for Jira app, increasing evaluations and sales by over 250% and launching the app into the top 25 on the Marketplace.

Some of the tasks we prioritized were:
- Website redesign to increase traffic Marketplace traffic and conversions
- Reinvented brand and product messaging to strengthen differentiation
- Optimized the Marketplace listing and developed an explainer video to capture attention and convey value as quick as possible
- Launched a campaign to educate target audiences on the “magic” of JQL search extensions and create new product demand

Measuring the ROI of your content marketing asset is a simple matter of benchmarking and extrapolation. For example, to calculate your ROI for an ebook:

1️⃣ Figure out the cost of creating that ebook.

You can use a simple formula like: Number of hours x average hourly cost

Let’s say your content team spends about 40 hours writing the ebook before passing it off to the design team, who spends an extra 10 hours creating the visuals. If your average hourly cost is around $100, your ebook costs you $5000.

2️⃣ Find out the number of leads generated, your average lead-to-sale conversion rate, and your average sale amount value.

Let’s say you managed to pull in 20 qualified leads through your ebook. If your lead-to-sale conversion rate is about 50%, that equates to 10 deals closed.

If an average sale value is about $2000, that’s $20,000 in revenue attributable to your ebook.

$20,000 in revenue from an initial investment of $5000 thus equates to a 300% ROI for your ebook.

Note: The numbers above have been greatly simplified. Feel free to adjust them as you see fit.
