We are deeply honoured to have facilitated this cross-disciplinary collaboration between Jay and Evan Liang, culminating in the creation of an experimental design zine titled Attack Robots. Centred on the concept of “robot as an altered entity,” the project transforms mechanical forms into a new design vessel, within which bold, exuberant visual compositions unfold. Through the use of daring, high-contrast colour palettes, the zine establishes a strong sense of contemporaneity and experimentation, offering a viewing and reading experience unlike any we have previously explored, and challenging our own preconceptions of design expression.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Hasuriso for their support in RISO printing and binding, which significantly enhanced the tactile quality, material depth, and collectable value of the publication. Special thanks to Evan for submitting the work to Award 360 in Guangzhou, China, through which Attack Robots was shortlisted as a finalist. Although it did not ultimately receive an award, having the work seen and recognised by a panel of highly respected jurors remains an invaluable and memorable milestone for us.

CUTOUT Zero marks a decisive relaunch of the magazine, symbolising a return to zero — not as an ending, but as a conscious and renewed beginning. After more than a decade of publishing, experimenting, and evolving alongside the design community, this new chapter re-examines the very foundation of what a design magazine can be. From editorial structure and visual language to material choices and reading experience, every element has been thoughtfully reconsidered and rebuilt.

More than a redesign, CUTOUT Zero represents a repositioning — a clearer voice, a stronger point of view, and a deeper dialogue with readers and creators. It carries forward the same independent spirit that defined CUTOUT from the start, now with greater maturity, precision, and purpose. Reset to move forward, Zero is both reflection and momentum — a platform for contemporary design, culture, and ideas to connect, challenge, and inspire.

This issue, titled You'll never walk alone Issue, extends that belief even further. In an industry often shaped by long nights, small teams, and solitary struggles, designers and studios can easily feel isolated. Yet behind every practice lies a wider network — collaborators, peers, printers, writers, clients, and communities — quietly building the ecosystem together. No one advances alone. The creative industry grows because we grow collectively.

Through shared stories, conversations, and works, this issue celebrates the strength of solidarity and the invisible threads that connect us. It is a reminder that independence does not mean isolation, and that meaningful design is never a solo act. Together, we shape the culture we belong to. Together, we move forward.

HEXACOOL Branding, Packaging & Product Design

In Sarawak, where rainforests stretch beyond the horizon and natural resources shape both culture and industry, innovation begins not in towers, but with a simple question: can we create something better and cleaner from what we already have?

HexaCOOL was born from that mindset. Instead of relying on imported petroleum-based coolants, it rethinks engine chemistry through local resources, research, and engineering expertise. Developed with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), HexaCOOL transforms regional materials into high-performance, sustainable solutions.

More than a coolant, it signals a shift — from raw resource supplier to value-added innovator — delivering responsible efficiency while reducing fossil fuel dependency and environmental impact.

Our Concept -

In the process of building this brand, our role extended far beyond conventional brand identity, positioning, and packaging design.

We began from the ground up — rethinking and reconstructing the entire product system from scratch. This included the bottle’s form and structure, ergonomic usability, visual longevity, and considerations for sustainability and recyclability. Every detail was carefully examined, tested, and refined. Nothing was taken for granted.

It was a highly demanding undertaking — far more complex than it may appear.

To break away from the overwhelming visual similarity and homogenisation found across the market, we adopted principles inspired by German industrial design. Through rational construction, clean lines, and function-driven aesthetics, we redefined both the visual language and the overall product experience.

The result is a design that is not only visually appealing, but enduring; not only refined, but timeless. Rather than chasing short-lived trends, we aimed to create something lasting — a design that maintains its relevance and elegance, even years into the future.

GBN Coconut Cookies Packaging

This year, GBN proudly introduced their handcrafted coconut biscuits, a quintessential Malaysian specialty created with tourists in mind. For this project, we drew inspiration from the lush tropical rainforest, blending its rich natural essence with refined design aesthetics to craft a distinctive and captivating design concept.

The design features bold and vibrant color combinations, complemented by fresh and artistic illustration styles and expressive handwritten typography, adding layers of depth and sophistication to the overall visual appeal. Blue plays a pivotal role as the core color, standing out strikingly amidst the warm tones and giving the packaging a refreshing and unique identity. Additionally, the meticulous application of silver stamping and embossing techniques elevates the packaging's texture and fashion-forward appeal, infusing it with an artistic elegance.

This design not only enhances the product's visual allure but also imbues it with greater collectible value and gifting appeal, perfectly meeting consumer expectations and making it a cherished choice for tourists.

We are honoured to receive the GRAPHIS Gold Award for Packaging Design 🏆 (The Gaharu Interior Fragrance)

This marks our first time participating in this prestigious international competition. Amid a demanding workload, we submitted the project with a light-hearted, exploratory mindset—never expecting it to be met with such meaningful recognition.

GRAPHIS, based in New York, is a highly respected international design award and authoritative publication with a legacy spanning several decades. It holds significant influence and credibility within the global design community.

We’ve also heard that the trophy itself is exquisitely crafted and highly collectible. We now look forward to bringing it home and experiencing, firsthand, the true weight of this honor.

Our 44th Behance Features! Thanks Behance !
→ → →

Applecrumby was born from the belief that childhood should be celebrated with imagination, simplicity, and a touch of wonder. Inspired by the charm of European living—where timeless design meets effortless comfort—the brand creates baby essentials that blend modern craftsmanship with playful creativity.

Every piece is designed to delight both parent and child: clean lines, gentle tones, and thoughtful details that evoke calm and curiosity. From cozy wearables to delightful accessories, Applecrumby and Fish transforms everyday moments into small adventures—where laughter, discovery, and love become part of the design language.

Behind its whimsical name lies a spirit of curiosity and friendship: “Applecrumby” for sweetness and spontaneity. Together, they remind us that growing up is a beautiful journey of joy, exploration, and endless imagination. Applecrumpy and Fish is more than a brand—it’s a story that grows with your little one.

We created 44 complete design variations for this baby diaper brand, ultimately selecting 6 key sets for the final photography showcase. From the very beginning, our vision was clear — to craft a brand identity defined by simplicity, cleanliness, timeless beauty, and refined aesthetics. It wasn’t just a design choice; it was a statement of lifestyle — where less becomes more, and beauty lives in restraint.

To our delight, this direction was fully embraced by the client and has since shaped the entire design language. The result is a visual universe built around soft, comforting hues, serene imagery of peaceful babies, and a meticulously structured layout that radiates a sense of European elegance — clean yet warm, rational yet deeply emotional. This aesthetic not only enhances the brand’s sense of trust and sophistication but also allows parents to feel a quiet assurance when they choose the product.

This design marks a complete departure from the old era of diaper packaging — replacing clutter with calm, noise with grace. It opens a new chapter for modern parents — a chapter where practicality meets poise, and everyday essentials become objects of quiet beauty.

From the very beginning, when Jay and Vivian dove in with nothing but passion and a bit of naïve courage, CUTOUT was born. They knew almost nothing at the time—just a simple intention to *create*. Yet this small magazine ended up taking them across borders: wholesale distribution, sharing, curating exhibitions, meeting creative friends from around the world, and even earning international design awards.

Looking back, that single belief—*just do it*—became the spark that shaped CUTOUT into a title recognised both locally and internationally across the design community.

Today, the spirit of CUTOUT remains very much alive. Jay and Vivian continue to carry its energy forward, hoping to inspire a vibrant, diverse, and ever-growing creative landscape in Malaysia. And surely, the future will only get brighter.

How about you? How many issues of CUTOUT have you collected? Feel free to share your story with us.
