More than a social media campaign, the initiative reflects a broader strategy that combines culture, creativity, technology and cross-border collaboration to strengthen Selangor’s position on the global stage.

The initiative also highlights the growing importance of public-private partnerships, with Tourism Selangor and IOI Hospitality Sdn Bhd signing a memorandum of collaboration aimed at strengthening future tourism campaigns and creating new opportunities for integrated destination promotion.

The hospitality industry is entering a new era where sustainability is no longer viewed as an optional initiative, but as a strategic business priority.

The official rollout of the 𝗠𝗔𝗛 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘀 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 marks a significant step forward for Malaysia’s hotel industry. Developed by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) in collaboration with the 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺, 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 & 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 (𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗔𝗖), the roadmap provides a structured pathway for hotels and resorts to progress towards MOTAC Green Hotel Standards, ESG implementation, and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification.

The initiative extends beyond certification. It establishes a practical framework for strengthening sustainable management practices, enhancing operational resilience, supporting local communities, preserving cultural heritage, and advancing environmental stewardship. These are increasingly important factors as hospitality businesses respond to evolving traveller expectations, investor priorities and international market requirements.

The roadmap also reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to aligning the hospitality sector with the National Tourism Policy 2020–2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), while enhancing the industry’s long-term competitiveness and global positioning.

As sustainability continues to influence investment decisions, procurement standards and destination competitiveness, initiatives such as this provide industry stakeholders with a clear and structured pathway towards internationally recognised best practices.

Beyond certification, the initiative highlights the critical role of industry education and capability development. Through Malaysian Association of Hotels Learning & Development, MAH L&D (MAH Learning & Development - 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑦 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑎𝑠 𝑀𝐴𝐻𝑇𝐸𝐶), hoteliers are provided with the knowledge, practical guidance and technical support needed to navigate the journey towards MOTAC Green Hotel Standards, ESG adoption and GSTC certification.

As the business events industry continues to evolve, nurturing the next generation of talent has never been more important. Platforms that encourage innovation, strategic thinking and industry exposure are essential to ensuring a sustainable and globally competitive ecosystem.

Returning this August 2026, the 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, organised by MACEOS Youth, provides a unique opportunity for aspiring professionals to tackle real-world challenges, collaborate with peers and develop the skills needed to shape the future of the industry.

Beyond competition, the challenge serves as an important talent development initiative, bridging academia and industry while fostering creativity, leadership and a deeper understanding of the role business events play in driving economic and social impact.

Founded and organised by 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗸𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶 𝗛𝗮𝗷𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗺 (DP Rehan Rin), the awards programme is spearheaded through her role as Chairperson of the 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶 𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝘀𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮 (𝐸𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑐 𝐷𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑊𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛 𝐸𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑢𝑟𝑠 𝐵𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑢) under PRESBAH.

Now in its third edition, the programme builds upon the legacy established through the successful staging of 𝗔𝗻𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 (𝐺𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑊𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛 𝐴𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑠 2024) and Anugerah 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 (𝐺𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔 𝑀𝑎𝑑𝑎𝑛𝑖 𝐴𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑠 2025), both of which celebrated excellence, leadership and community impact while drawing the support of distinguished national and state dignitaries.

A key pillar of the awards programme is its continued collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), which supports the evaluation, verification and endorsement process for award recipients. This partnership reinforces the credibility and integrity of the recognition, ensuring that honourees are assessed through a structured and transparent process.

The awards aim to celebrate individuals and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional achievements, professional excellence, innovation and commitment within their respective fields. Beyond recognition, the programme seeks to inspire future generations, encourage positive societal contributions and highlight the importance of leadership, resilience and community development.

The Anugerah Gemilang Maju Jaya 2026 awards presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on 𝟭𝟭 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 at Sabah International Convention Centre - SICC in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, where recipients from diverse industries and backgrounds will be celebrated for their accomplishments.

As the programme continues to grow, Anugerah Gemilang Maju Jaya has established itself as a meaningful platform that not only honours excellence but also fosters greater appreciation for individuals whose dedication and achievements contribute to the advancement of society, industry and nation-building.
