Did you know?

Avocado trees can take between 3-5 years to bear fruits. Patience is key in the world of avocados.

Meanwhile, your waiting period can be rewarding if you wisely intercrop your avocado with other viable short time crops. A good example is pineapple as you can see in the video below.

Training others, passing the knowledge of what I have and know has been my greatest pleasure. It's a sacrifice I love to make and will never stop making. The interesting fact about it is that the more I give, the more I know.

One of such programs is the Gogreen Agribusiness Boot camp. It was paused due to the level of insecurity in the country, (the center is located quite a distance away from the city). Before the pause, many young people have successfully passed through the system and had a turnaround with their agribusiness journey.

Many times, I've considered reopening the boot camp recently, (maybe I will with the right partnership) still on it.

Meanwhile, watch out for my new program. I will be giving out valuable information in this new project; The Business of Agriculture. I know you all have been wondering what it's all about. It will be unveiled soon enough. It's one of my tools for bridging the knowledge gap in the agriculture industry and business.

It doesn't have to be a physical activity, thank God for technology. You can have valuable information at your fingertips without going a long distance.

I won't stop doing what I love, even when circumstances are against it.

I remain yours truly, the agribusiness evangelist😀. Running off to enjoy my weekend, please do the same.

HASS AVOCADO FARMING.
Hass Avocado can be distinguished by its large round seed and purplish brown color when ripe. Other varieties are usually green in color, even when ripe. Hass also has a buttery and creamy texture with a sweet taste.

There are specific reasons why the Hass variety is considered the king of all avocados in the world. These are:

- It is preferred for its culinary uses
- It has more fat than other varieties making it smoother and creamier
- Hass avocados have longer shelf life making it easier to ship for long distances
- Has good cooking qualities.

One of the main benefits of Hass avocado farming to farmers is its lucrative returns in the export market.

Another advantage of planting this variety is that it requires little space with the recommended spacing of 5 by 5 meters. Compare this to other types that need a spacing of 8 by 8 meters, like the Nabal seed variety. Therefore, Hass can be planted by small-scale farmers.

HASS AVOCADO ECOLOGY
It would be best to plant Hass avocados in regions with an altitude of 1000 – 2000m. Rainfall should be evenly distributed throughout the year, with a minimum rainfall of 1,000 mm -1600mm. Hass avocados should be irrigated during the dry season for optimal yields. Farmers should plant this avocado variety in well-drained soil with a pH of 5 – 7.

HOW TO PLANT HASS AVOCADOS
Before planting these avocados, ensure that the soil is well-fertilized. Farmers are encouraged to use hybrid fertilizer, which increases yield by more than 30%. An excellent example of such a fertilizer is Avocare organics.
