Turkey arrests 200+ ISIS members before NATO summit

Turkey arrested over 200 people today who are suspected members of ISIS and far-left armed groups just days before a NATO summit hits Ankara.

The summit runs July 7-8 and will bring together all 32 NATO leaders, including President Donald Trump.

Ankara has also banned all public demonstrations from June 28 until the summit ends.

Local petrol production hits 48m litres/day

Nigeria now produces about 48 million litres of petrol per day locally.

In 2023, that number was effectively zero.

Presidential adviser Olu Verheijen says this shift is already reducing pressure on the naira as petrol imports dropped from ₦2.3trn in Q1 2025 to under ₦90bn a year later. Less dollars spent on fuel = less strain on the exchange rate.

The Dangote refinery effect is real, whether you like the man or not.

The Yoruba Council of Elders just declared support for Tinubu's re-election in 2027.

Their reasoning: the reforms are hard but working, the economy is stabilising, and continuity is better for Nigeria right now. Are the reforms really working?

A viral video. Police officers. ₦100,000 demands from motorists with valid tinted glass permits.

The officers, allegedly led by ASP Omomefe Akin Geoffrey, were stationed near Rivers State Government House, one of the most visible locations in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers State Police Command has now ordered their arrest and detention.

Good. But let's be honest, this only happened because someone filmed it and it went viral.

Presidency vs Peter Obi

Peter Obi said President Tinubu should resign. The Presidency called it "childish, hollow and an unworthy distraction."

They went further, dragging Obi's own record as Anambra governor, citing his successor Willie Obiano's accounts of how he left the state.

The Presidency's argument: Nigeria runs a presidential system, not parliamentary. You can't resign just because a British PM did. Obi's comparison doesn't hold.

They also dropped numbers, GDP growth every quarter since 2023, foreign reserves now above $50bn, oil production up from under 1mbpd to 1.8mbpd, and federation revenue on track to hit ₦30trn this year.

But here's the real tension: the same statement from the presidency admitted cost of living is still a problem and blamed it on the Middle East conflict and the Strait of Hormuz closure.
