WHY YOU SHOULD PLAY THE LONG GAME...
In a worldđ where most people play the short game, playing the long game offers a considerable advantage.
There is a saying that âIf you do what everyone else is doing, you shouldnât be surprised to get the same results everyone else is getting.â
Doing what everyone else is doing ensures average results. The problem is we donât want the same outcomes as everyone else.
We want different outcomes. Different outcomes come from doing different things or doing things differently.
According to Albert Einstein, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Itâs easy to overestimate the importance of luck in success and underestimate the importance of investing in success every single day.
Too often, we convince ourselves that success is just luck.
You see your friend living the "Good Life" and making Millions, and you say he was lucky.
No, he wasnât. He was playing a different game that you weren't. he was playing the longđ game.
The most successful people in any field all play the long game.
The long game isnât particularly notable. It doesnât attract a lot of attention.
In fact, from the outside, the long game looks boring. The tiny advantages that accrue arenât noticed until success becomes too apparent to ignore.
The short game is putting off anything that seems complicated and, instead, doing what seems easy or fun. The short game offers visible and immediate benefits. The short game is seductive.
The long game allows you to compound results. The longer you play, the better the rewards.
The short game is putting off anything that seems hard. The short game is taking advantage of your counterparties. The short game is spending more than you earn.
The seduction of the short game is visible and has immediate benefits.
Examples of the short game include:
Spending more than you earn
Not taking care of your health or relationships.
Not investing in skills that will add value to your life in the long run.
Not investing in your mind in terms of books and courses.
The longer you play the short game, the more complicated things get.
On any given day, the impact is small, but as days turn into months and months into years, the result becomes enormous.
Just as the accumulation of slight advantages makes the future more accessible, the accumulation of slight disadvantages makes the future harder.
People realize they played the wrong game when the costs become too large to ignore.
The long game is the opposite of the short game. Playing the long game means paying a small price today to make tomorrow easier.
From the outside, the long game looks pretty boring:
Saving money and investing it for tomorrow
Eating healthy
Staying up at night to work on your Business
Doing things that will add value to your life.
Reading a book instead of watching a movie.
The long game isnât debatable. Everyone agrees; for example, we should spend less than we make and invest the difference.
While you wonât become a millionaire overnight by spending less than you earn, youâll never become one if you spend more than you earn.
The first step is the hardest. You have to be willing to suffer today, not to suffer tomorrow. This is why so few people play the long game.
Every action is a step toward the long game or the short game.
You need to prioritize things that will be of value to you in the long run...
An excellent place to start is with things that compound Rapidly, like finances, knowledge, and relationships.
