The arts of public speaking, speech making and logical debating have become essentials in today’s competitive and fast-paced generation. Hence, the ability to be assertive, think on one’s toes and project one’s voice are unwritten criteria in almost every endeavour ranging from business to politics. They secure success in negotiations, interviews, campaigns and marketing whether in a room, on a podium or on air. These skills, like every other skill, require necessary information and vigorous practice and discipline – processes that have the potentials of straining us enough to change for the better but are often resisted without sufficient motivation and adequate challenge. This is the premise on which the James Adekunle Fadairo’s Annual Speech Contest (JAFASC) is built. It is designed and poised to provide that needed challenge and required motivation for members of this organization to horn their oratory prowess so they can compete favourably in today’s survival-of-the-fittest world.
