*A SPEECH BY DR. CLINTON OKWUDILI IDEH*

Special Guest of Honour

2026 General August Return of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Home and Abroad, Ukehe

Theme: "Building Bridges of Solidarity: Strengthening Our Bonds for Greater Peace, Love and Unity."

The President General, Executive Members and distinguished members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Home and Abroad, Ukehe; our Reverend Fathers; traditional rulers; community leaders; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen.

Good Morning.

I begin by expressing my profound gratitude to the leadership of the Catholic Women Organisation, Home and Abroad, Ukehe, for the great honour of inviting me to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at this year's General August Return. I am deeply humbled by your confidence and warm reception. May God Almighty continue to bless this noble organization for its unwavering commitment to faith, family, and community development.

The theme of this year's gathering, "Building Bridges of Solidarity: Strengthening Our Bonds for Greater Peace, Love and Unity," could not have come at a more appropriate time than now. It reminds us that no society can attain meaningful progress where division, hatred, or indifference prevail. Every great community is built on unity, mutual respect, sacrifice, and a shared commitment to the common good.

As mothers, you are the foundation of every home and the first teachers of our children. Your prayers, sacrifices, and moral guidance have sustained our families and our community through difficult times. The peace we enjoy today owes much to the dedication of women who have continued to nurture love, promote reconciliation, and uphold Christian values. For this, Ukehe is grateful, and I personally salute every one of you.
Important to mentioned are some of the tremendous successes recorded in our community due to purposeful leaders and committed membership of Ukehe women like
• Construction of formidable edifice at our common and jointly owned Nwankwo Ukehe
• Prohibition of sale of Kai kai and other hard drugs that posed a threat to the growth and development of our youth and security in our community
• Modernisation of our morning rituals and activities to be in tune with modern times
These and others are commendable achievement recorded by this progressive looking catholic women organisation of Ukehe

We live in times that test our faith and our families and challenges our Christian values daily yet, it is precisely in these moments that your leadership is vital and I urge you to continue standing strong in prayers with support to one another without being judgmental, I urge you to be the voice of peace in your homes and our community at large.

My dear people, Ukehe is not just another community; it is a great community with a rich history, remarkable human capital, and an enviable political heritage. We have produced distinguished sons and daughters who have excelled in medicine, law, education, business, public service, and many other professions. Yet, despite these enormous contributions, our community has been denied many strategic political opportunities at both the state and national levels. This has inevitably affected the quality of our political representation and our ability to attract the level of development our people deserve.

However, I firmly believe that our future will not be determined by what we have been denied but by what we choose to build together. The bridge to a better future is unity. When we stand together, speak with one voice, and pursue our collective interest above personal ambitions, no force can stop the progress of Ukehe.

As many of you know, just like some of my other Ukehe brothers in other parties, I recently received the mandate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as its candidate to represent the good people of Igbo-Etiti East Constituency in the 2027 Enugu State House of Assembly election.

Being a formidable pressure group in Ukehe community, I appeal to you all to intervene in current political development in Ukehe particularly for multiple candidates in Ukehe for who will represent us at House of Assembly. We need a brotherly meeting that will facilitate and foster a peaceful understanding that will enable our community have a common front like the communities we are contesting against so we will sure of early victory because as the saying goes, united we stand and divided we fall.

As a medical doctor, my professional life has been dedicated to saving lives, relieving pain, and giving hope to people regardless of their background. Medicine has taught me that prevention is always better than cure, that compassion must guide leadership, and that every life matters. These same values will define my approach to public service. I seek to build bridges rather than walls, to unite rather than divide, and to pursue policies that will improve education, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture, infrastructure, and economic opportunities for our people.

Our campaign is not about one individual or one community. It is about giving every ward and every community within Igbo-Etiti East a strong and effective voice. It is about ensuring that our constituency receives its fair share of government attention and development. It is about restoring dignity to public service through transparency, accountability, and accessible leadership.

Today, I respectfully appeal to all sons and daughters of Ukehe, especially our mothers, to continue to pray for peace in our land and for the success of every effort aimed at building a more prosperous constituency. Your prayers are powerful, your counsel is invaluable, and your support will remain indispensable as we journey towards 2027.

Let us reject division, bitterness, and politics of hatred. Instead, let us embrace dialogue, solidarity, and mutual respect. Let us remember that political contests come and go, but our relationships as brothers and sisters remain forever. Together, we can create a future where our children will inherit a constituency that offers opportunity, justice, and hope.

As I conclude, I once again congratulate the Catholic Women Organisation on another successful August Return. May this gathering renew our commitment to peace, strengthen our unity, and inspire us all to become ambassadors of love in our families and communities.

May God bless the Catholic Women Organisation.

May God bless Ukehe Kingdom.

May God bless Igbo-Etiti East Constituency.

May God bless Enugu State.

And may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Thank you, and God bless you
