NCDC CHAIRMAN PAYS HOMAGE TO FORMER BENUE MILITARY GOVERNOR ATOM KPERA

The Chairman, Governing Board, North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Dr. Cosmas Akighir, has paid a courtesy visit to former Military Governor of Benue State, Brigadier General Atom Kpera (rtd.), at his residence in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

Dr. Akighir, who visited the former military governor on Monday, engaged him in discussions on issues concerning the development of Benue State and the broader North Central region.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the NCDC Chairman to pay homage to the elder statesman and draw from his experience and knowledge of the region's history and development.

Brigadier General Atom Kpera, who served as Military Governor of Benue State from January 1984 to August 1985 during the military administration of Major General Muhammadu Buhari received Akighir with gratitude.

Dr. Akighir has continued to engage with senior citizens and experienced leaders as part of efforts to gain insights that could contribute to the development of the North Central region.

The NCDC Chairman Barr. Dr. Cosmas Akighir and the former Nigerian military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, (IBB) in tête-à-tête as Akighir visited to pay homage.

IBB served Nigeria as the military President from August 27, 1985, until his resignation in August 1993, (eight years).

Akighir is indeed a humble leader, consulting and paying due respect to deserving leaders.

The Chairman of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Barr. Dr. Cosmas Akighir, has received an invitation to attend the forthcoming "I Love Benue" Unity Concert, a non-political initiative aimed at promoting unity among the people of Benue State.

The invitation was presented during a courtesy visit by the organising team, led by Hon. Terver Atu (Krazy T), who also presented the NCDC Chairman with a branded T-shirt, face cap and other commemorative items ahead of the event.

Barr. Akighir commended the initiative, describing it as a platform that promotes unity, peaceful coexistence and collective commitment to the development of Benue State. He also appreciated the organisers for their efforts to foster togetherness among Benue people.

In a related development, the NCDC Chairman recently met with Benue content creators and entertainment stakeholders to discuss youth empowerment opportunities and greater participation of young people in development initiatives across the state.

BREAKING: Alleged Fake Agency DG, Two Others Face Court Tuesday

The Nigeria Police Force will on Tuesday arraign Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), and two others before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged forgery, impersonation and related offences.

The defendants are facing an eight-count charge in the case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, filed on November 27, 2025, by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki.

The arraignment was initially scheduled for June 16, but proceedings were stalled after Adeyemi was reported to be ill. Justice Mohammed Umar subsequently adjourned the matter to Tuesday for the defendants to take their plea.

Court documents show that the prosecution intends to call several witnesses, including the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Paul Emmanuel, officials of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and Adamu Balongu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Also listed as prosecution witnesses are Ojo Victor, Omeh Amarachukwu and Wakili Saidu, who investigators allege were posted to work with Adeyemi at the purported agency.

RESCUE: A video of 46 people, rescued from captivity, after 56 days of abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria.

The school children and teachers were kidnapped on May 15, 2026 and were successfully rescued by security agencies on July 10, 2026, following joint operations of the Nigerian Security forces.

The victims are 39 Pupils and 7 teachers.

Farming 2026: Gov Lawal Distributes Over 120 Trucks of Fertilizer, 340 Per Ward In Zamfara

In an outstanding performance of governance, Governor Dauda Lawal has launched Zamfara State's 2026 wet-season agricultural support programme, distributing over 120 truckloads of fertilisers and farm inputs to farmers across the state.

Governor Lawal said the initiative is aimed at improving food production, supporting farmers, and expanding modern agricultural practices. He noted that the intervention is part of the state's efforts to strengthen agriculture and enhance farmers' productivity.

The programme includes 72,000 bags of fertiliser, 200,000 litres of herbicides, 100 crop residue crushers, 100 grass choppers, 100 feed milling machines, improved pasture seeds, as well as 20 motorcycles and 20 mobile phones for agricultural extension workers.

The distribution will cover all 147 political wards across Zamfara State's 14 local government areas, with each ward receiving 340 bags of fertiliser, while every local government area has been allocated 8,000 litres of herbicides.

2027 Elections: Tension Mounts as INEC Keeps July 11 Deadline for Candidates' Upload

Anxiety is growing among some presidential and National Assembly aspirants across political parties as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) maintains the July 11 deadline for the submission of candidates' details, with no extension announced.

INEC opened its candidate nomination portal on June 27 for political parties to upload the particulars of their presidential and National Assembly candidates. The portal closes today, July 11, in line with the Commission's election timetable.

The deadline has dashed the hopes of some aspirants who were still seeking their parties' nomination forms, access codes and other required documentation, while others have reportedly turned to the courts to challenge the outcome of their party primaries.

Following the close of submissions, INEC is expected to verify the nominations and publish the personal particulars of candidates in accordance with the Electoral Act.

For the governorship and State House of Assembly elections, the nomination portal will open at 9:00 a.m. on July 18 and close on August 8, 2026, giving room for the campaigns to commence.

FG, CAC, SMEDAN Begins Free Registration Of 250,000 Businesses

The Federal Government has approved the free registration of 250,000 Nano, Small and Medium Enterprises (NSMEs) across Nigeria as part of efforts to promote business growth and expand access to funding.

The initiative is a partnership between the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). It is designed to help small businesses formalize their operations at no cost.

Beneficiaries will receive SMEDAN certificates, enabling them to access business loans, grants, and other government support programmes available to registered businesses.

Interested business owners are required to provide their business information and personal details, including their National Identification Number (NIN). Registration is completely free.
