WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEHIND THE CONFLICT PART 1
The conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States is complex and has developed over many decades. It involves politics, ideology, nuclear weapons, and regional power struggles in the Middle East. Below are the main reasons behind the conflict.
1. The 1979 Iranian Revolution
Before 1979, Iran and Israel were actually allies. But everything changed after the Iranian Revolution.
• Iran became an Islamic Republic led by religious leaders.
• The new government strongly opposed both Israel and the United States.
• Iranian leaders began calling Israel an illegitimate state.
This created deep hostility between Iran and Israel that still exists today.
2. Iran’s Nuclear Program
One of the biggest causes of tension is Iran’s nuclear program.
• Israel believes Iran wants to build nuclear weapons.
• Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, like energy.
• The U.S. and Israel fear that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, it could threaten Israel and destabilize the region.
In 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which limited its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief, but tensions rose again after the U.S. withdrew from the deal in 2018
