OVERVIEW OF FMITI/MINEC IN PROMOTING MADE IN NIGERIA BRANDS (2018)
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, all protocols observed.
It is with great pleasure I welcome you to this event. It is critical that we engage in robust discussion regarding the economy at a time when the world's attention is shifting from oil to other commodities. Nigeria can no longer operate a mono economy or run an economy solely based on oil revenue. We need to begin to take critical steps at SMEs as key drivers of economic growth.
In an attempt to the change the narratives of the non-oil sector in Nigeria, and promote Made-In-Nigeria products, services, skillsets, brands, ideas, etc.; we started MINEC in 2016.
For us, the introduction of a national brand identity logo is key hence we started MINEC in Aba, Abia State. One of the key cities in Nigeria when it comes to entrepreneurship.
The theme was local brands From Local, To Global. Central Topic - The Role Of Idea As We Promote Made-In-Nigeria Brands To International Buyers.
In 2017, the theme was Expert Collaboration: The key to Building Strong Nigerian brands.
This year, our theme Rebranding Nigerian Products to the Global World has its central topic as The Significance of National Brand Identity Logo for the Promotion of Made in Nigeria Products. Our lead speaker will do justice to this in few minutes.
We must understand that the Federal Government cannot do it alone; the private sectors effort and ideas may die a natural death if not approved and supported by the government. To close this gap, there must be collaboration between both. Hence the synergy between FMITI and MINEC!
As we continue to apply the human imagination and the possibilities of technology to the challenges we see around us in a collaborative way, we will achieve the followings:-
1. Solve social problems for humanity.
2. Create businesses and new revenue streams.
3. Develop and improve on existing products that compete globally.
4. Develop our economy and grow our GDP.
5. Achieve greater social and financial inclusion.
Made In Nigerias Entrepreneurs Conference known as MINEC is committed to alliances that deploy skills, networks, imagination and technology to solving the growth and development of our local products and brands in Nigeria.
So for us in MINEC, collaboration is key. We need to collaborate with others to achieve more. Hence our 11-Technical Partners & Experts brainstorm regularly to provide solutions that are Nigerian-friendly in globalizing our made in Nigeria goods.
Through consistent and deliberate Promotion of Made In Nigeria Brands or Country of Origin Label Project, countries like Taiwan, Korea and China have succeeded in changing their respective narratives about local brands.
Finally ladies and gentlemen, were happy to serve as the technical partner to FMITI on this project. From January 2019, MINEC will commence monthly trainings to support Trade Associations, SMEs, MSMEs and Artisans on improving their brand image and quality.
