THE WOMAN IN ROOM 13
Episode 1: The Check-In
At exactly 2:13 a.m., the hotel receptionist heard the front door open.
She looked up from her desk.
A woman walked into the hotel.
She was dressed in a long black gown, with a small handbag hanging from her shoulder. Her face was pale, and her wet hair covered part of her face.
“Good evening,” the receptionist said.
The woman didn't answer.
She slowly walked toward the desk and placed an old identity card on the counter.
The receptionist picked it up.
Room 13.
She frowned.
“Madam, Room 13 isn't available tonight.”
The woman finally looked at her.
Her eyes were strangely empty.
“It is always available for me.”
The receptionist felt a chill run through her body.
She checked the computer.
Room 13 had indeed been vacant for months.
In fact, the hotel manager had instructed every staff member never to give anyone that room.
“I'm sorry, ma'am,” she said nervously. “I can't give you Room 13.”
The woman stared at her for several seconds.
Then she whispered:
“You will.”
Suddenly, the hotel's lights went off.
The receptionist screamed.
For about ten seconds, the entire lobby was completely dark.
Then the lights came back on.
The woman was gone.
But the identity card was still sitting on the desk.
The receptionist picked it up again.
This time, she noticed something she hadn't seen before.
A photograph was attached to the card.
She stared at it.
Her hands began to shake.
The woman in the photograph was the same woman who had just stood in front of her.
But beneath the photograph was a date:
12 August 2011.
The receptionist immediately called the security guard.
“Someone just entered the hotel.”
The guard looked at the CCTV monitor.
“Who?”
“I don't know. A woman.”
He rewound the footage.
They watched the entrance.
The receptionist froze.
The doors opened at exactly 2:13 a.m.
But there was nobody there.
The CCTV showed the empty lobby.
The receptionist was sitting alone at the desk.
No woman.
No identity card.
Nothing.
The security guard slowly turned toward her.
“Are you sure you saw someone?”
Before she could answer, the hotel phone rang.
TRRRRING!
Both of them jumped.
The receptionist picked it up.
“Hello?”
A woman's voice whispered from the other end:
“Why haven't you brought my key?”
The call ended.
The receptionist looked at the security guard.
“Who was that?”
He didn't answer.
Instead, he pointed toward the elevator.
The doors were opening.
2:13 a.m.
And on the elevator's display was one number:
13
The receptionist watched in horror as the elevator slowly began moving upward.
Then her phone received a message.
She looked at the screen.
It was from the hotel's manager.
Only five words:
“Don't let her leave.”
The receptionist's heart stopped.
Because she suddenly remembered something the manager had told her on her first day at the hotel:
“Whatever happens, never let anyone who checks into Room 13 come back downstairs.”
