DO YOU AGREE WITH ME submission. knowledge is powerful. an important question every SINGLE should ask is, why am I really attracted to this person? is it simple good looking? Talent's? Mutual interests?
many times we actually love a characteristic or quality in someone other than the person to love someone is to place high value on them. falling in love is the mature picture that illustrates dethronement of self and the elevation of another. marriage is not a competition. help each other grow together.

Governor Nyesom Wike
22nd January, 2022

Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike said he stopped an army major providing es**rt services to illegal refiners taking refined products out of the state.

The Governor said he took the step after he received intelligence that the rogue officer was providing es**rt services to operators of illegally refined petroleum products.

Governor Wike revealed this at a meeting with traditional rulers at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.

The meeting was attended by heads of the security agencies and chairpersons of the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.

He said he had to send security personnel to thwart the unidentified major’s activities.

“In fact, I had to send my special security to go and intercept a major who was trying to es**rt some of these illegal products.”

The Governor also accused the police of refusal to arrest one Chief W. J. Wocha, Fubara Ohaka and other members of the illegal bunkering cartel operating at Ibaa community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

Wike berated the Police for being complicit in the criminal act of illegal oil bunkering.

He described as embarrassing how officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have continued to be complicit and shamelessly involved in sabotaging the national economy.

“I don’t know how I can be a security officer sent to a place to protect people, to protect whatsoever belongs to the Federal Government, at the same time, I’m involved in sabotaging the national economy.

“I don’t understand how I can wear uniform and be involved in that. If they do not want to support us, we have no choice but to expose all the atrocities that is going on in this State.”

The governor declared that his administration will not hesitate to expose any security personnel involved in such illegal refinery activities.

He said the names of all indicted persons will be published soon and they will be declared wanted while urging traditional rulers in the State not to allow illegal crude oil artisanal refining activities to take place in their domains anymore.

Wike told the traditional rulers that those involved in illegal refinery activities are sabotaging the national economy.

He regretted that the Federal Government which controls the oil industry and the security agencies has been indifferent to the soot pandemic and the damage it is inflicting on the health of the residents of Rivers State.

“I should think that the way federal government intends to fight insurgency, is the way they should fight illegal oil bunkering, because it is a sabotage on the national economy. Very big sabotage. It affects our own revenue.

“If we are supposed to produce 2 million barrels for example, we are now producing 1.2 million. And in that 1.2 million barrels, it affects Rivers state because we are not producing up to the number we are supposed to produce, and then we can’t get the money to do whatever you want us to do.”

The governor also said illegal oil crude refinery activities constitute environmental hazard, capable of causing cancer related illnesses in the State.

According to him, his primary concern is to ensure that the health of residents of the State is not jeopardised.

“It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to see how this thing can be stopped. As I speak to you, nobody has called me from the Federal Government to say how they can support us.

“But that is not my business. My business is the health of my people. I will not because the federal government is not interested to stop it, therefore my people should die. If everybody dies, who are you going to govern.”

The governor, therefore urged the traditional rulers not to be less concerned about the activities of illegal oil refinery operators, but to frantically mobilise members of their Community Development Committees (CDC) and the leadership of their youth groups to work in synergy to dislodge them from their domain.

Governor Wike frowned at the inability of the Nigerian Police to arrest Chief W. J. Wocha, Fubara Ohaka and other members of the illegal bunkering cartel operating at Ibaa community in Emohua Local Government Area.

He said the names of all indicted persons will be published soon and they will be declared wanted.

Clash was averted on Friday, in Benin City, capital of Edo State, during a protest of alleged extortion by wheelbarrow pushers.

The protesters under the auspices of Wheelbarrow Pushers Association, are made up of pushers from northern Nigeria, who convey loads and goods for commuters between commercial vehicles drop-off points around the popular King’s Square, otherwise known as Ring Road and the Oba Market.

They alleged excessive billing and extortion by revenue collectors in the name of the government.

Their protest was compounded, as it coincided with the ‘End Hardship in Nigeria Campaign’ protest organised by The Peoples Alternative Movement in Benin.

The protesters who besieged the King’s Square by their numbers, stopped all members from working as a way to express their grievance.

Trouble started when they sighted a wheelbarrow pusher conveying loads, and swiftly charged at him in large number with a view to confiscate his wheelbarrow.

Prompt intervention by security operatives present in the vicinity however saved what could have resulted in violent clash.

One of the protesters who identified himself as Otunba Adebayo, said the revenue collectors started with N50 per day for a wheelbarrow, but later increased it to N700 a day.

Adebayo who claimed to be chairman of the association, added that about three different groups now collect revenue from them in the morning, afternoon and evening on a daily basis.

“We came out today for the protest because of the problem we have been facing in the Oba Market.

“When they started, they were collecting N50. From N50 it is now N700. We are not slaves, that is the reason for the protest. The money they are collecting from us is too much.

“Government didn’t ask them to collect N700 from anybody. Government did not also tell them to fight anybody or injure people in the market. The embarrassment is too much. If you go to hospital now, you will see a lot of the wheelbarrow pushers lying ill. Some of us have given up the trade.

“How much are we working? Some will rent wheelbarrow for N300 and work at most N3000 while some will not work as much as that. That is how we have been sustaining ourselves in the business. Those that work between N700 and N1000 a day, if you remove N300 how much will now be left for the person? Nothing.

“The protest will from today last till next week if government did not answer us or do something positive,” he vowed.
