This wasn’t trolling. It was smart marketing.

Burger King and McDonald’s didn’t overthink ads.
They used their rivalry as content.
People laughed, picked sides, shared clips, and kept talking.

Both brands stayed visible without shouting “buy now”.

Lesson:
When brands respond to each other publicly, attention grows naturally. Sometimes, your competitor helps you market better.

We thought we had cracked it.
The deck was clean. The logic made sense. The ideas felt solid.

Then my MD looked at it… and said no!

Not because it was bad.
But because it wasn’t good enough to compete with brands already dominating the road and the conversation, names like Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai etc.

The deadline didn’t move.
The pressure increased.

As the Social Media Team Lead, that moment tested everything, my thinking, my confidence, and my ability to lead under stress. Sleep disappeared. Strategy meetings got longer. We unlearned what we thought was “safe” and rebuilt from first principles.

We were pushed to think beyond posting cars and chasing trends.

We had to answer harder questions:
What makes this brand believable?
Why should anyone choose it over the familiar giants?
And how do you sound confident without pretending to be one?

By the time the final deck came together, it wasn’t just better, it was sharper, clearer, and more honest.

What started as rejection became refinement.
What felt like pressure became growth.

That experience didn’t just shape the strategy.
It shaped me.
