Design Mistakes Beginners Make (And How to Fix Them)
When I first started designing in Canva, I thought making a design look good was all about adding more elements.
More colors.
More fonts.
More graphics.
But I quickly learned that good design is often about doing less, not more.
Here are some common design mistakes beginners make:
β Using too many fonts
Mixing 4 or 5 different fonts can make your design look messy and confusing.
β
Stick to 2 fonts maximum one for headings and one for body text.
β Overcrowding the design
Trying to fit everything into one graphic makes it hard to read.
β
Give your elements room to breathe with proper spacing.
β Using too many colors
A rainbow of colors can distract from your message.
β
Choose 2β3 brand colors and stay consistent.
β Ignoring alignment
When text, images, and shapes aren't lined up properly, the design feels unprofessional.
β
Use Canva's alignment guides to keep everything organized.
β Making text hard to read
Fancy fonts and low-contrast colors may look creative, but they can hurt readability.
β
Prioritize clarity over decoration.
Remember:
A beautiful design isn't just about looking good.
It's about communicating a message clearly and helping people understand it quickly.
The best designers aren't the ones who add the most.
They're the ones who know what to leave out.
