Recently, I went to Benin City in Edo state, and I grew up there. So it was like going home.

I have always known that there was something different about Benin, but I lived there for years, so there was nothing to compare it with, but this last time I went, it was very obvious what was different.

You are in a queue in Lagos in a supermarket and everyone takes their turn, some people will try to beat the queue but that is always an exception. Supermarket people are different.

But in Benin in a supermarket, everyone is trying to be smarter, old, young, and the tile lady just minds their business. Whoever comes to them they will sort.

If you protest, the next thing is an insult, the kind you haven't heard in ages, and it hits you because you understand even if they say it in Bini, Esan, or pidgin English.

Someone knocks on your door, and your response is not "who is there" but "wetin"?.

Omo, Benin is on another level of vibe. Everybody needs to calm down and talk a little more nicely to people.

Who can relate?.

Did you know what we call menstrual pain is called dysmenorrhea?⁣

Did you know there are types of menstrual pain better known as dysmenorrhea?⁣

Did you know that one of this type is a course for concern?⁣

Read an excerpt from my book Puberty on this topic below;⁣

DYSMENORRHEA⁣

This is the pain you experience during the actual menstruation. It is also called menstrual cramps, due to contractions in the uterus when you menstruate.⁣

Although the uterus is always contracting (tightening) during your menstrual cycle but it increases during your period which accounts for the pain you may feel.⁣

Remember the blood that lines the uterus in readiness for your egg to be fertilized during Ovulation? It starts to shed, because the egg is not fertilized by a s***m, and for that to happen, your uterus contracts and this causes some pain which is known as Dysmenorrhea.⁣

That blood that breaks down comes out of the va**na as your period...

It is your duty to take care of yourself.⁣

I have always been an advocate of one who doesn't bring trouble home. I want my folks to believe that wherever I am, I am not reckless, and I am fine.⁣

As a grown-up, one thing you learn is being responsible. Being responsible for what you eat, when you eat, when you rest, and your general wellbeing. It is your sole responsibility. it's called Self Care.⁣

I used to feel guilty when I spent money on myself. My mind would race through all the people I needed to give money and all, so I assumed I disliked shopping.⁣

Well, you would dislike shopping if you grew up shopping in New Benin market or Lagos Highland. Shopping in these places is harassing but I won't mind if I own the shops and rack in the cash.⁣

So I believed I didn't like shopping, (there is an IELTS Speaking question that asks if you like shopping and I always say no) you can get our IELTS complete ebook, just send me a DM or see the link below.⁣

But I found that I loved shopping, I have to hold when I am shopping myself because I am like someone unleashed so I do not go to the shopping malls often but when I go, forget it.⁣

But you need to manage yourself, listen to your body, and preserve yourself so that you can have more to give to your loved ones. The better nurtured you are, the more you are, and then the more you can give.

As I entered puberty, I had so many physical and external changes and concerns—serious concerns that I wasn't sure were even right to vocalize or even knew the words to say.⁣

One, I was quite skinny; food was like a chore then, and when I did eat, the portions I could manage were always too little. ⁣

Secondly, I was way taller than my peers, I remember being called tally, dongoyaroo, and later lepa. I remember that of all the names, lepa was the worst. I don't know why I never liked that name.⁣

Then I had some slow physical development; I had no pimples when all my peers were having theirs; actually, I had mine in my back. There were so many things I wanted answers to.⁣

I yearned to have an elder sister on whose shoulders I could stand to see my future self, but my elder sister was just a year my senior, so she pretty much was in the same developmental stage as me.⁣

These yearnings followed me until later in life, when I could do my research and have my questions answered. As I did my research, I found out that they were too good to keep to myself, so I began to compile my findings, and my knowledge of copywriting and teaching background came in handy.⁣

This book will make your soon-to-be teenager ready for this developmental stage and even teach you, as a mom, one or two things about yourself.⁣

When she was 8, she woke up one day and saw that there was blood on her bed. She was terrified because she thought she had been hurt. ⁣

She tried to hide it, but each time she sat and got up, she saw she was stained. This continued till her mom noticed, and that was when it dawned on Mummy that her 8-year-old baby just had her first period. ⁣

So, as a good mother, she began the crash course of trying to educate her daughter on how to handle her menstrual cycle.⁣

Are you a mom on this table, wondering when to start this all-important aspect of your parenting journey? This book, Puberty, is a sure guide to help you get the job done.⁣

You can read it or give it to your daughter to read too.⁣

Thank you for being so amazing. Happy birthday.
