Adaku sells shoes, handbags and clothing. ⁣
She goes to the market and buys her wares, but she always makes a mistake fixing her selling price. ⁣

This is what she does. ⁣
⁣
She adds up the total amount of all the products she buys. Then she adds all the other expenses she makes, like transport, etc. ⁣
⁣
You may say, what's wrong with that? Nothing. But hear me out. Let me land. ⁣
⁣
In fixing her selling price Adaku divides the total amount by the number of items she buys and adds a profit margin. ⁣
⁣
Do you still think nothing is wrong with this? ⁣
⁣
Okay, let me explain with examples. ⁣
⁣
Let's say she buys ⁣
10 pairs of shoes at 8,000 each = 80,000⁣
10 handbags at 4,000 each = 40,000⁣
15 articles of clothing at 10,000 each =150,000 ⁣
SUB TOTAL = 270,000⁣
⁣

This is her cost of buying ⁣
Transport = 5,000⁣
Carriage = 800⁣
Feeding = 500⁣
Hotel for 2 nights = 12,000⁣

Like Adaku, what most business people do is to add their profit margin and spread everything amongst the products. ⁣

You are wrong if you have been doing like Adaku. The consequence of pricing your products like this is that it makes the product that should otherwise be cheaper to become more costly than that of your competitors who know how to calculate aright. ⁣

That was my post on the 9th of March this year. In that post I expressed some of my frustrations. I was ready to pack up. ⁣

In return I got quite a number of responses from you guys that encouraged me greatly. ⁣
⁣
But two comments rang a bell. Those were comments from and . ⁣

Their comments made me understand that my content did not resonate with my audience. ⁣
⁣
You know, no matter how superb you think your content is, if it does not mean anything to your audience then you are talking to yourself. ⁣

That got me thinking guys. I seriously needed to get a skill that will serve my people. Thanks goodness, in May I saw this advert from the on how I can help local businesses with their data entry services. ⁣

Most of the time we concentrate so much on the package and miss the blessing. ⁣

But something happened after I repeated primary 3,(was it twice?) that brought the turnaround. It was like an automatic switch. I became an 'A' student. ⁣

What is the result of this experience? No child stays dull around me. No you must become bright and intelligent. ⁣

I remember teaching a child whose writing looked like Arabic. Other teachers had given up on him. Not me. His being in my class for one year brought about a total turnaround. ⁣

Tell me, who can teach a Dundee than a former Dundee? Now consider if I create a niche for teaching special case kids. ⁣
⁣

Sometimes, our pain is a blessing in disguise.

STORY TIME:

In 2019, I entered what I thought would undoubtedly be my ‘happily ever after’ relationship. After a lifetime of various types of trauma, past abusive relationships in adulthood, I whole heartedly believed this was it for me.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. In December 2020, I ended it for good.

This relationship was not my happily ever after, but when it ended, I made a decision to have it be MY happily ever after. I vowed that the rest of my life was going to be the best of my life and the happiest I had ever been.

I have been working in mental health for nearly 5 years, and had counselled women in similar positions as me. I knew what to do to rebuild myself. I had the skills. I just had to apply them.

If you have been in an abusive relationship, you can relate. You spend months, and sometimes even years, trying to please the abuser. You get nothing out of your relationship, and you simultaneously end up depleting your energy, hope, and lose sight of who you are. You lose sight of what makes you happy.

As a single mom to a 6 year old boy, I made the decision that I would not allow these external circumstances steer me away from the goals and aspirations I had for my life, and the life I wanted to build with and for my son.

At this point, I knew I had been through so many personal experiences that could help women like me, single working moms, heal. Combined with my formal, academic psychiatric nursing education, it was a no-brainer.

I passionately and quickly took Psych & Soca off the ground. I turned my pain into profit.
