Orile-Agege Unveils “Run for Asiwaju 2027” Mini Marathon.

The Orile-Agege Sports Committee has announced plans to host the “RUN FOR ASIWAJU 2027” Mini Marathon, scheduled for January 25, 2026, as part of efforts to promote unity, healthy living, and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement was made during a press briefing held on January 15 in Orile-Agege, where organisers described the marathon as more than a sporting event, but a community-driven initiative aimed at engaging youths, discovering talents, and bringing residents from different walks of life together through sports.
Speaking at the briefing, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Liadi Oladipo, said the race will feature 1,000 participants drawn from Agege Local Government Area and Orile-Agege LCDA. Participants will compete in various categories including VIPs, politicians, professionals, teachers, youths, women, the elderly, traditional rulers, and persons living with disabilities.
According to him, 200 participants will receive ₦10,000 each, while professional athletes will compete for top prizes of ₦50,000, bringing the total prize pool to ₦2.35 Million. Registration forms are available at designated centres, including the office of the Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA.
The marathon will begin at the Agege Local Government Secretariat and pass through Pen Cinema Bridge, Oke-Koto, Oniwaya, Dopemu, and Agbotikuyo, before ending at the Orile-Agege LCDA Secretariat.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon. Akinola Idowu (Dodo), commended the organisers for initiating the project with personal resources and assured them of full government support. He disclosed that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has been briefed and is fully in support of the initiative.
Hon. Dodo described sports as a powerful tool for unity and youth engagement, adding that the success of the marathon would pave way for more sporting activities in the area. He also revealed that plans are underway to develop sports facilities at Ladoje Field, Ilepako Field, and Oyewole Primary School, already captured in the 2026 budget.
The organisers assured residents of adequate safety and traffic control measures, noting that the programme is designed to be sustainable and will be followed by other sporting events, including a boxing, table-tennis, football and sport competitions.
With growing community and government backing, the Run for Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon is expected to stand as a landmark grassroots sporting event for Agege and Orile-Agege.
