Ohhh, I wish being Social media manager was as chill and glamorous as Emily in Paris🥲

But it's quite the opposite.

🥲While Emily is chilling with the big boys, we spend most of the day staring at our phone and laptop screens so posts can go out as scheduled.

🥲While Emily is meeting somebody's son , We jump from one platform to another in order to keep up with trends, track post analytics and audience insights.

🥲While Emily posts on impulse, we create content weeks ahead so our clients can approve posts on time so everything stays on brand.

🥲While Emily doesn't work during the weekends, we plan, schedule content and draw up weekly reports.

Need I say more??

With the evolution of social media platforms, it takes hard work, grit and willingness to learn to handle 1 platform much less multiple platforms.

Overanalysis paralysis is real!

I was talking to a client recently and and we were talking about consistency on social media.

She was telling about how she didn't lack content ideas but she wanted everything to be perfect before she posted it.

Because of this, she would hours to complete on post and it was eating into her time.

In my mind, I was like " this sound's familiar "

It sounded like what I was experiencing myself!

I would find faults in the content, design , my page layout.... it was terrible!

And I know a lot of you are going through the same thing.

You might think your content is not good, it needs a "little" more work, someone else already posted something similar, the design doesn't look good ..... and a host of other complaints you might have.

My advice? Just post it.

Set an allocated time to create content and finish up on it so it doesn't eat into other important tasks.

Go through your work but don't analyse or compare your content.

From a young age, I have been akin to technology.

I remember how I loved going through people's phones 🤣. I would look for games, settings and other special functions that phones might have.

To the extent that as young as I was at age 10, when people had problems with their phones, my mum would direct them to me to fix it because anything phone-related was my specialty.

To this day I am obsessed with smartphones, going through new releases to see their specs and compare different brands.

It was during this my thirst for phone knowledge that I stumbled on Social media.

Facebook was my first social media experience ( I wasn't with the BBM ping generation)
I opened my first Facebook at 16 on my mum's phone 😅

For me, it was a way to keep up with friends.

From Facebook, it was 2go!

Chai! I remember how many times my battery died because I left my small data on all night because I wanted to increase my star. Unfortunately, I never moved past EXPERT 😕

And from there it was Instagram, then Snapchat.

What was a way to keep up with friends has become a source of income.

What was a passion has now become a way to reach clients and help improve their business with my social media marketing skills

If not for social media I honestly do not know where I would be.

I have gained friends on this platform.

Landed clients on this platform, some of which I have never met in person but work goes on.

There are similar stories of individuals who have built multi-million businesses because of social media.

As we celebrate social media day today, I am grateful for this technology and for all those who continue to use it for good.
