Hearts are breaking across Nigeria, and it's not because of love—it's because the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has just dropped a bombshell ahead of Valentine's Day.
The apex bank has officially classified the trendy "money bouquets" (cash folded into flower-like arrangements) as naira abuse, adding it to the list of offenses like spraying, squeezing, selling, and defacing banknotes.
Under the CBN Act, anyone caught tampering with the naira now faces:
⚖️ Minimum 6 months in prison
💰 Fine of at least ₦50,000
Authorities have vowed to crack down on violators nationwide, urging citizens to report offenders and handle the naira with respect.
But while the CBN is protecting the currency, Nigerians are mourning the death of the ultimate Valentine's flex.
Naija Social Media Reactions:
: "I go use dollars. I too love my babe." 💵
: "Single people shout power!!!" 🙌
: "Singles go happy for this one 😂"
oba: "Damn, so I can't get for my girl again?! Ah I'm painedddd! 😢"

: "A real man would go to prison for me." 🥹
This Valentine's season, lovers have a tough choice to make:
❌ Cash bouquet? Six months in prison.
✅ Flower bouquet? Safe, but is it as romantic?
The CBN is standing on business, but lovers are standing on love. Whether you choose roses or risk it for the naira, one thing is clear—Valentine 2026 just got a lot more expensive and risky.
