The Day I Made My First Sale
I will never forget the day I made my very first sale.

It was raining that morning, one of those slow, cold days where your bed holds you hostage. But I told myself, ā€œToday is the day. You will show up!ā€

I posted my product like my entire destiny depended on it. No likes, no comments, not even a ā€œGod when.ā€

I was just about to delete the post out of frustration when… a notification came in.

A message. A real human being. Asking, ā€œHow much?ā€

Ah. My heartbeat went from 0 to 100 instantly. I responded quickly (like I’d been rehearsing that exact question for 6 months). The person said, ā€œSend account number.ā€

Ewoo.

I triple-checked my phone. Was this real life?

I sent the details, waited like someone expecting exam results and boom alert entered! I almost screamed.

You would think I just won a car. But that small payment felt like a million naira to me. Because it wasn’t just money. It was proof. That somebody believed in me. That I wasn’t crazy for starting this thing.

Till today, that moment still gives me ginger.

Your first sale is not just a transaction. It’s a declaration.

You’re saying to the world: ā€œI’ve started. I’m serious. I’m ready.ā€

Now over to you:

Do you still remember your first sale? What did you sell, and how did it happen?
Share it with me in the comments, let’s celebrate those humble beginnings together!

My Most Embarrassing Business Mistake (And What It Taught Me)
Let me confess something that still makes me laugh and cringe at the same time.

So, I design all my graphics by myself. Yes, me creative director, head of design, and chief overconfidence officer.

One time, I was feeling really proud of this flyer I made. I picked this bold black-and-white theme, added some dramatic font, and even used one of my favourite serious-looking photos.

I posted it everywhere with chest—WhatsApp, Instagram, even sprinkled it in a few groups. I was ready for the sales to roll in.

Until…

Someone messaged me and said,

ā€œPlease, are you doing a remembrance ceremony? Or is this a business flyer?ā€
I wanted to enter the ground.

I looked at it again, and truly it looked like a funeral poster. The kind they print for someone’s one-year remembrance. The font? Very obituary vibes. The colours? Darker than my future after a failed promo.

But guess what? I still make my flyers myself. I just laugh at that version now and remember how far I’ve come.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Even when you DIY your designs, always get a second opinion (preferably someone that won’t lie to you).
Growth is loud sometimes, but mistakes are louder and that’s okay!
Now over to you…

Have you ever made a business mistake that you can now laugh about?
Tell me in the comments, let’s compare embarrassment levels!

That One Customer That Almost Made Me Quit
Let me tell you about the day I almost closed shop and went to learn how to fry akara.

So, this customer messaged me with full ginger, asking questions like I was on a job interview. I answered everything with love and light. After three days of back and forth, she finally said, ā€œOkay, I’ll get back to you.ā€

Ah. My chest.

But guess what? She came back two weeks later, placed the order… and that’s when the real gbas gbos started.

She changed the order twice, sent half payment, and then ghosted me for 3 days—meanwhile, her delivery deadline was tighter than Lagos traffic.

When she finally came back, she dropped the remaining money and said, ā€œPlease I hope you’ve not started? I want to change the colour again.ā€

At that point, I closed my eyes and imagined myself on a beach in Bali… or at least frying puff puff peacefully at a roadside stand.

But I delivered the order.

And guess what?

SHE LOVED IT.

She even brought me two more customers.
Me that almost threw in the towel and became a professional napper.

Moral of the story? Not every wahala customer is the enemy. Sometimes, they’re just confused souls sent to test your patience—and expand your business.

Now over to you…
