UPDATE ON THE OKUNRAYE BAALESHIP CHIEFTAINCY TITLE CASE

Court Sitting of October 8, 2025

As part of the ongoing proceedings in the Okunraye Baaleship Chieftaincy Title case, the court reconvened on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, to continue the cross-examination of the defendant’s last witness.

However, in an unexpected development, one of the defence lawyers submitted a notice stating that the wife of their final witness passed away last week. Consequently, the witness was unable to appear before the court a claim that was verified as true.

In view of this, the court, along with one of their legal representative, who had also listed this individual as a key witness, agreed to adjourn the case until December 3, 2025.

Nevertheless, a new and significant development emerged during this session. The presiding judge issued a stern warning to all counsels involved, clearly stating that the court would no longer tolerate any further delays or frivolous adjournments. He emphasized that any lawyer found deliberately stalling proceedings will face sanctions, in line with directives from the Federal Ministry of Justice.

This strong judicial stance gives renewed confidence that justice will soon be delivered without further obstruction.

It is important to note that the Local Council’s lawyer, who represents the Lekki LCDA, continues to support the defendants in this case a move that has raised serious ethical and constitutional concerns. This interference reflects a longstanding pattern of bias, abuse of office, and political manipulation often witnessed by several communities within the LCDA, not just Okunraye.

Our constitution does not in any way empower a Local Government Authority to interfere in matters pending before a court of law, let alone take sides in a dispute that concerns the peace and heritage of a community. Yet, despite all attempts to influence the outcome, their efforts have proven futile. Every tactic to delay justice or twist the truth has failed, and the facts of this case continue to speak clearly in favour of the Oregolu Ruling House.

At this stage, it is evident that the defendants have lost their footing. The Oregolu Ruling House holds the upper hand, backed by overwhelming evidence and legal merit. The day of victory is near.

I therefore urge all members of the Oregolu Ruling House and every citizen of Okunraye community to remain patient, calm, and united. Let us not be distracted by the falsehoods being circulated in the media. Many of these claims stem from ignorance of how the judicial system operates. We, on the other hand, are guided by both native wisdom and sound understanding of the law and we know where this case is headed.

As a wise saying goes:

“How can a journey that involves both the blind and those who see clearly be led by the blind? It is simply impossible.”

Indeed, truth and justice can never be led astray. No matter the delay or distraction, the Okunraye Baaleship Chieftaincy Title will rightfully return to Chief Ibrahim Mikahil Adedeji (Fiwajoye I).

In Advance: Congratulations to Chief Ibrahim Mikahil Adedeji, the Oregolu Ruling House, and the entire people of Okunraye.

Very soon, Okunraye will rise again under new, visionary, and progressive leadership that upholds integrity, unity, and community development.

PRESS RELEASE

AN URGENT CALL TO ACTION: LAGOS STATE MUST END THE REIGN OF LAND GRABBERS BEFORE IT DESTROYS OUR FUTURE

Lagos, Nigeria – The menace of land grabbing in Lagos State has grown into a dangerous crisis that now threatens not only the peace of our communities but also the credibility of Lagos as Africa’s most vibrant investment hub.

Across Nigeria, land disputes exist, but Lagos has unfortunately become the worst-hit epicenter of this evil. This is unacceptable for a state that prides itself as the economic nerve centre of Nigeria and the commercial heartbeat of Africa. If urgent and decisive action is not taken, the damage will not stop at dispossessed citizens it will send a chilling message to international investors and jeopardize billions of naira worth of ongoing and future projects.

A GRAVE THREAT TO INVESTMENT AND JUSTICE

What makes this crisis so alarming is not only the illegal seizure of land but also the shocking level of collusion. Land grabbers now operate boldly, backed by political godfathers, compromised security agents, and thugs-for-hire, intimidating rightful landowners and even overriding government approvals.

There are documented cases where properties lawfully allocated and approved by the Lagos State Government were forcefully taken over. In some situations, victims of these criminal acts are further humiliated when police or soldiers side with thugs to chase them off their own land. To worsen the tragedy, these perpetrators even petition rightful owners — and win — showing just how deep their connections run.

This paints a shameful picture: that Lagos, a state once respected for order and opportunity, could be descending into lawlessness and impunity.

THE LEKKI COASTAL COMMUNITIES EXAMPLE

The situation of the Lekki Coastal Communities under Lekki LCDA illustrates the gravity of this crisis.

Fourteen (14) communities, displaced by the Dangote Refinery project, were compensated with land through a legally binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lagos State Government.

By the provisions of the MOU, only their elected Resettlement Committee has the authority to allocate or sell those lands, and only the Lagos State Government can dissolve that body.

Comrade Wasiu Ayeola Olaomopo, who was elected chairman, automatically became Director of Lekki Worldwide Investment Limited as provided by the MOU.

Yet, despite these clear legal protections, a group of politically backed individuals led by one Mr Remi Lasisi invaded with thugs and attempted to overthrow the elected leadership without due process. Worse still, they began selling community lands not with proper receipts or approvals, but through raw intimidation raking in over ₦240 million in illegal sales.

These vast proceeds are now allegedly being used to bribe ministries, security agencies, and officials in order to silence justice. This is not just theft it is economic terrorism against Lagosians.

QUESTIONS THAT MUST BE ANSWERED

This crisis raises disturbing questions that Lagos State Government can no longer ignore:

Is the MOU signed with these communities no longer valid?

Has a parallel agreement been secretly issued to empower these criminals?

Has Lagos State become a place where constituted authority is weaker than thugs and political influence?

If a government-approved MOU can be brushed aside so easily, then the rule of law itself is under siege.

THE DANGER OF SILENCE

This issue goes far beyond Lekki or any single community. It is about the integrity of Lagos State. Investors, both local and international, are watching. If Lagos cannot guarantee property rights, then why should any investor risk their capital here?

The silence or delay of government action risks not only local unrest but also the erosion of Lagos’ global reputation. A state that cannot protect its own citizens from criminals will not be trusted with foreign investments worth billions of dollars.

A CALL TO GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU AND ALL INSTITUTIONS OF JUSTICE

We therefore issue this urgent call to:

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State House of Assembly

The Ministry of Justice

The Nigeria Police and Security Agencies

to act decisively and without delay. The perpetrators must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted. The rights of lawful landowners must be restored. Lagos must demonstrate clearly that it has zero tolerance for land grabbing and criminality, whether in commerce or in land matters.

THE FUTURE OF LAGOS IS AT STAKE

Lagos cannot afford to be seen as a lawless jungle. Justice delayed here is not just justice denied — it is a betrayal of the people, a betrayal of investors, and a betrayal of the Constitution itself.

This is the moment for Lagos State to rise and prove it remains a state of law, justice, and global standard governance. Anything less will drag us backward and erode all the progress made.
