Arsenal are preparing an offer for England defender Ezri Konsa, who has yet to agree a new deal with Aston Villa.

The England centre-back is currently preparing for Saturdayโ€™s third-place play-off at the World Cup, following the defeat to Argentina in the semi-final on Wednesday.

Konsa has two years remaining on his contract at Villa Park and has been open to discussing a new one. But Daily Mail Sport understands that so far no agreement has been reached, with Konsa looking to be one of Villaโ€™s top earners alongside goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. At this stage, Konsa is thought to be keeping an open mind on his future.

Daily Mail Sport previously reported Arsenal's interest in the defender earlier this month.

Villa are relatively restricted in what they can do in the transfer market this summer after breaking UEFA spending rules.

That means, broadly, that any player they sign must be offset by a sale, although they are allowed to lose up to ยฃ52m in wage and transfer spending over the next two years.

FUTA Mourns Loss of 100-Level Student Found Deceased Near Off-Campus Residence

A 100-level student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), identified as Favour Olaniyi, has been found deceased near his off-campus residence, allegedly after consuming a poisonous substance suspected to be an insecticide.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 9, 2026, when the student was discovered lifeless by some of his colleagues, who alleged that he may have taken his own life, although this has not been officially confirmed by the university.

In a statement issued by the institution's Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo, the university expressed sadness over the development and confirmed that relevant authorities were immediately notified.

The statement noted that:

"After the incident was brought to the attention of the university management, the university security apparatus immediately informed the police,"

"Officers from the force were dispatched to the scene, while medical officials from the university and security operatives coordinated the evacuation of the body to the morgue."

It also confirmed that the student's parents had been informed:

"The parents of the student have since been informed about the unfortunate development."

Authorities further stated that the police had begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death, while the university pledged full cooperation with security agencies.

The statement also included condolences from the institution:

FUTA added that its Student Affairs Division had begun providing counseling support for students affected by the incident and encouraged students experiencing emotional or academic difficulties to seek help.
