ADC BORNO CONDEMNS THREATS OF POLITICAL INTIMIDATION

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Borno State Chapter, strongly condemns the threatening remarks made by Alhaji Saina Buba, a serving member of the Borno State Executive Council, in a video in which he threatened harassment and physical assault against citizens who refuse to follow the political path of the ruling party.
Such remarks are unacceptable and constitute a serious threat to democratic values, political freedom and the right of citizens to freely choose their political affiliation.
No citizen should be threatened, harassed or assaulted for supporting an opposition party. Political differences are a fundamental part of democracy and must never be settled through intimidation or violence.
The ADC therefore calls on the Borno State Government to:
- Publicly clarify its position on the remarks;
- Investigate the matter and take appropriate action;
- Guarantee the safety and constitutional rights of opposition members and supporters; and
- Direct all public officials to refrain from statements capable of inciting political violence or intimidation.
The ADC will continue to pursue its political activities peacefully and within the law. However, we will not remain silent in the face of threats against our members, supporters or any citizen exercising their democratic rights.
Where necessary, the party will seek appropriate legal and institutional remedies, including approaching the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant national, regional and international human-rights bodies.
Democracy cannot survive where citizens are threatened for choosing a different political path.
