When I saw the Reimagining Christmas in a Modern African World challenge by Oloba The Artist, my first reaction was:
“Wait, what would Christmas actually look like if it was truly African?”

As an African, born and raised in Nigeria, that question hit deep.

I didn’t rush into design. I spent days researching the Western Christmas story, Santa Claus, the visuals, the symbols, and how it became the global standard. Then I paused and thought:
Africa has history. Africa has culture. Africa has generosity.
So why don’t we see ourselves in the story?

That reflection led me to the story of “Father of Gifts” (Abu al-Muwahib), connected to Al-Hasan ibn Sulaiman, a 14th-century Sultan known for generosity, leadership, and communal wealth. That was my turning point.

From that history came Festo Baba
Festival + Baba (father in many African languages).

Festo Baba represents what Christmas means in African homes:
family, love, shared meals, open doors, laughter, community, warmth, not snow, not silence.

This project reminded me that design is not just about making things look good. It’s about meaning, intention, and storytelling.
And creatives, one thing I’ll always recommend: start with a moodboard. It gives clarity, direction, and flow. No vibes, no vision.

Christmas, the African way. 🎄✨

Just completed a Marketing flyer designs for ComfyChic, a clothing brand that focuses on female activewear and gym wear.

This project reminded me how important it is for designers to keep creating, even when it’s not for a client. The more you design, the more you uncover the creativity within you.

Here are a few lessons I keep in mind as a designer:

🔹 Keep designing — creativity grows with practice, not perfection.
🔹 Observe great designs — train your eye to understand balance, color, and structure.
🔹 Seek feedback — don’t design in isolation; growth happens through reflection.
🔹 Experiment — trying new things leads to fresh ideas and breakthroughs.
🔹 Stay consistent — small daily efforts build big creative results.

So, to every creative out there keep going. Your next design might be the one that defines your style.
