You're selling in Port Harcourt but paying for Lagos customers
You check your phone. Somebody from Abuja just messaged asking for the price. Then somebody from Lagos. Then someone from Kano.
You're based in Port Harcourt. You don't deliver outside Rivers State. And your logistics partner doesn't even go to half those places.
This is one of the most common money-wasting mistakes I see business owners make on Facebook.
The problem is not your product. The problem is not your price.
The problem is your location setting inside Ads Manager.
When you boost a post or run an ad, Facebook's default behavior is to show your ad across Nigeria — sometimes even across West Africa. You don't see it. You just think "my ad is running." But you are paying for impressions and clicks from people who can never buy from you.
Here is just a simple way to fix it....
1. Go into Ads Manager → Ad Set → Audience → Locations. Delete "Nigeria."
2. Type "Rivers State" or "Port Harcourt."
3. Then click "People who live in this location" — not just "people who recently visited."
That one change alone can cut wasted spend by 40–60%.
Many people no dey notice am — but your targeting is the reason your ads are bringing the wrong crowd.
If your business serves one city or one state, your ad should only run in that city or state. Simple.
Anybody using my services already knows: we lock in the location before anything else.
I hope this helps...
