If you've noticed that palm oil prices have been changing almost every market day, you're not imagining it.

For the past two to three market cycles, the market has been very unstable.

One market, the price goes up by ₦2,000.

The next market, another ₦2,000.

Then yesterday, it increased again by about ₦3,000.

This has made sourcing quality palm oil much more difficult for vendors.

The truth is, we are doing our best to find good-quality palm oil at fair prices for our customers, but the market is becoming more competitive. Millers are no longer selling at the prices we were used to, and quality oil is in high demand.

This is why I want to encourage every buyer:

Don't ask only for the cheapest price. Be clear about the quality you want.

If you're looking for good storage palm oil, let your vendor know. Storage-quality oil and freshly milled oil are not always the same, and each serves different needs.

If you want freshly milled, unadulterated palm oil with consistent quality from the top of the gallon to the bottom, say so from the beginning. That kind of quality now comes at a higher price because it is becoming harder to source.

Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to store palm oil properly. Sometimes, the oil may look beautiful on the surface, but the quality at the bottom tells a different story. Proper sourcing and proper storage make all the difference.

Please also understand that when your trusted vendor gives you a price, it reflects the current market reality—not a desire to overcharge you.

These days, if a miller quotes a price for quality oil, delaying too long to negotiate may mean someone else buys it before you do.

This isn't meant to create fear or pressure anyone. It's simply the reality of the market at the moment.

As buyers, the best approach is to communicate your quality expectations clearly and be prepared for the current market price of that quality.

Quality palm oil is an investment, especially if you're buying for storage, resale, or your family's consumption.
