Death is an inevitable passage in the journey of humanity, yet the departure of someone deeply cherished often leaves a void that words cannot adequately describe. It is in moments of bereavement that the fragility of existence becomes most apparent, reminding us that every life is a sacred narrative, written not merely in years but in the lives touched, the hearts encouraged, and the memories created.
Late Mrs. Grace Timothy Amoni Okujagu lived a life distinguished by warmth, compassion, humility, and remarkable benevolence. Her earthly sojourn was characterized by a genuine concern for others, an infectious disposition, and a maternal tenderness that made her presence a source of comfort to many. She was more than a beloved family member; she was a confidante, counsellor, caregiver, and embodiment of selfless affection.
On Friday 29th July 2026 family members, friends, sympathizers, and well-wishers converged at St.Annes. Ang church okujagu Ama following a solemn funeral service conducted in her honour .
Ven. Kenneth Odikibo, during his sermon, stated that life is temporary and that the body is the house while the spirit is the tenant. He explained that the tenant, which is Mama’s soul, has returned to God, her Maker, while her body, which is the house, will be laid to rest on Earth.
He described Mama as a faithful servant of God and a lover of God who had the interest of the Church and the things of God at heart. He further stated that she dedicated her life to serving God, even in her old age.
He therefore admonished everyone to serve God wholeheartedly and prepare their souls for life after death, emphasizing that after death comes judgment, and everyone will give an account of their deeds on earth.
The funeral ceremony was adorned with solemn prayers, hymns, tributes, exhortations, and deeply emotional reflections from those who knew her intimately. Through tearful recollections and heartfelt testimonies, the gathering revisited the virtues that distinguished her—her generosity, resilience, wisdom, hospitality, and unwavering devotion to the welfare of others.
Though her physical presence has ceased, the indelible impressions she left behind remain deeply embedded in the consciousness of her loved ones. Her words will continue to echo in the memories of those she counselled; her kindness will remain a reference point for those she assisted; and her sacrifices will constitute an enduring inheritance for the generations she helped nurture.
A brief reception was held at the community school field, Mr. Ernest Amoni gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the family to everyone who gathered to pay their final respects to their mother and demonstrated their support, both physically and otherwise. He prayed that God would bless them and grant them safe journeys to their respective destinations.
As her loved ones bid her a final farewell, grief is inevitably accompanied by gratitude for the privilege of knowing her, sharing moments with her, and witnessing the beauty of her life. Her departure is painful, but her memory remains precious; her absence is deeply felt, but her legacy remains indestructible.
May the Almighty grant strength and consolation to the bereaved family, preserve the memories of the beautiful life she lived, and grant her eternal repose in His presence.
