“Do grades matter?”
At an event called Beyond the Grades, we expected a no.
Osinachi Victor Nwandem said yes. Then he explained what a grade actually is.
Employers aren’t admiring your result. They’re looking for evidence to select from a large pile, fast. The grade is just the most convenient evidence they have.
“I have a lot of people that finished with a third class, but over time they have their law firms. They have a thriving business.”
“Grades are good, no doubt. But it is not an overall indicator. It is not even an indicator of how you will be in the next five years.”
