𝗟𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀
Several persons has reached out to me to ask the kind of laptop they should get for their graphic design career.
In this regard, I decided to make this review which is important for every designer to note before they get a laptop.
𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻
🔰 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 (𝗖𝗣𝗨)
The CPU controls the functions of a laptop. As a graphic designer, you need a fast and powerful CPU to run complex design softwares. You can start with a laptop that has intel core-i5- 6400T CPU.
🔰 𝗖𝗣𝗨 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
The generation of a CPU refers to the age of a CPU. Laptops with newer CPU generations are more developed, has more features, and are more power efficient than older CPU generations.
As a designer, you need to have a laptop whose CPU generation is not outdated so that you can be able to use new design softwares and upgrades from previously existing ones.

It is the first number listed after the processor type ( first number after core-i9, core-17, core-i5 and core-i3).
Examples;
intel core-i7-1165G7 is an 11th generation laptop.
intel core-i5- 10210U is a10th generation laptop
intel core-i3- 7350K is a 7th generation laptop

This is also called Graphics Processing unit (GPU). In most intel laptops, the graphic memory is integrated on the CPU while some laptops come with a seperate graphics card.
If you do only basic graphic design, the integrated graphics memory that come along with the CPU is good enough for you. However, if you do much of 3D designs and video editing, you should consider gettng a laptop that has at least 2-4GB graphics card.
🔰𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 (𝗥𝗔𝗠)
It is the temporary memory that is activated when you open an application on your laptop. As a designer, you will work with multiple applications and large size files therefore, you will need a laptop with high RAM capacity to enjoy a smooth work flow.
You can start with a laptop with 8GB RAM, however, I recommend using a laptop with 16GB RAM for best performance.
🔰 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 (𝗦𝗦𝗗/𝗛𝗗𝗗)
Storage which can either be Solid State Drive (SSD) or Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is also an important feature to consider when choosing a laptop for graphic design.
SDD is lighter, faster and more durable which will help you to save time when designing compared to HDD, so I will recommend you go for a laptop with SSD storage.
Note: Both RAM and Storage (SSD/HDD) can be upgraded as long as your laptop is compatible with the upgrade.
With this, you should be able to get a suitable laptop for your graphic design career.
As a newbie, you can start your career in graphic design with HP Elitebook 840 G3
Do well to share if you got value from this.
